Putin's actions in Ukraine have produced the opposite of his stated pretexts for invasions -- to prevent the expansion of NATO.
Finland and Sweden have now joined NATO, and Finland adds 830 miles to Russia's border with NATO, a border which already included:

1. 183 miles with Estonia
2. 133 miles with Latvia
3. 185 miles with Lithuania (at Kaliningrad)
4. 144 miles with Poland (also at Kaliningrad)

In sum, Vlad the Invader has already succeeded in increasing Russia's borders with NATO countries from 645 miles to now 1,475 miles.
Bringing Ukraine into NATO will increase Russia's borders with NATO another roughly 1,300 miles, making the total NATO border circa 2,775 miles.

< sarcasm > That makes Vlad the Invader among the greatest strategic geniuses of all time! </sarcasm>

However, all of that will be counted as just the "cost of victory" in the Russian mindset, if, if, if, Donald Trump is elected and then does what our Democrats are claiming he intends to do --

1. Abandon Ukraine

2. Withdraw from NATO

3. Let Vlad the Invader do "whatever the h*ll he wants to" in Ukraine or anywhere else.

At that point, NATO membership for Ukraine and everyone else will become meaningless -- and such claims are how Pres. Biden hopes to get reelected in November.

I don't think those claims by our Democrats are at all true, but it does seem that many posters on Free Republic would be quite happy to see it happen as claimed.

DJT will neither Abandon UKR or withdraw from NATO; he’ll more likely double down on both.

As for Putin, DJT will continue the “bromance” in a woodshed, a place from which Putin may not emerge or at least emerge not with all his parts.

Right now, the Biden promised military aid, after an initial flurry, has slowed to a trickle, if not already halted. Putin smiles warmly at Biden.
