90’s rock sucked then and still does.

I guess The Replacements book-ended the ‘90s....

"Alice In Chains was the best band of the 90s. Soundgarden was a close second."Agreed. Those were the top two bands of the 90's. I think it's a tie for #1.
To: Tired of Taxes
I think Stone Temple Pilots was right behind them.

"A handful of these groups date to the early 80s or late 70s."Yep. I'd consider GNR, The Cure, REM, and Faith No More as 80's bands.
U2 and Depeche Mode also were 80's bands, although they put out some great music in the 90s, too.
To: dfwgator
Agreed. Those three bands were the sound of the 90’s.

Scott Weiland was the voice of STP, but the DeLeo Brothers were the engine.

Rock talent was slipping all the way through the 90’s. Lip syncing became a big thing. By the end of that decade there really was not much left of any value.

By then everything became a derivative of something that had already been done.

To some of us, 90’s music was like a redo of the 70’s. I remember hearing that the 90’s music producers had grown up in the 70’s, and they wanted to promote the type of music they (we) grew up listening to.
Yes, the 80’s bands were good, but they fell out of fashion. Then, in a way, the look and feel of the 70’s were brought back.
To: Chode
Yes it/they are: 75, 7 & 5.
Trivia question.
What is the square root of hammybuttboi and tutu-for-toto puffs combined normal brain cells ?

That’s why they referred to Neil Young then as the “Grandfather of Grunge”.
