In regards to the subject painting, the face is magnificent, but the rest of the picture appears finished by a 3 year old? Look at the womans’ hands, how can you create detail of such a face, but have such mangled hands?

I’m sure there’s no shortage of art snobs out there willing to art-splain the genius of it to me.

Art, like clothing and architecture, goes through fashions. The face is to prove that he could anytime he wanted. As well as to flatter the person paying for the portrait. The rest is to earn him respect among his peers.

That's what I thought. The face is beautiful, but the hands are ridiculous.
