I really question the motivation of so-called conservatives on Free Republic who continually attack Governor DeSantis (who by his actions is demonstratively the most conservative governor in America). Are they just trying to cause discord here? If so, are they really Republicans or left-wing plants?

Yup - there's a species of so-called conservative who will always oppose Trump no matter how many good things he does, simply because their personal dislike of Trump outweighs any real conservative principle they ever pretended to have. Just look at famous hypocrites like George Will, Bill Kristol, etc.

And there's a related species of so-called conservative who will always oppose DeSantis or any other conservative who ever opposed Trump, no matter how conservative DeSantis may be, simply because he opposed Trump. Again, the dislike outweighs any conservative principle they pretend to have. DeSantis is the most conservative governor in the nation. That's all that should matter to any real conservative.
