I once worked with a guy from India.
He went home to visit and brought me back a surprise. He had me close my eyes and he gave me some kind of fruit to take a bite.
Well it turned out to be mango and I had not, in my then 40-something years of life, ever tasted a mango but I knew after that taste that this was an awful-tasting fruit.
I pretended to like it because he meant well.
But mangos should be made illegal.
Mangoes can be hugely bitter, but when mixed with heavy cream and lots of sugar, it makes fan-freaking-tastic ice cream. No sarcasm - it’s delicious, particularly from Indian and Mexican grocers.
First time I was exposed to mangos was in India with mango juice. They just taste like really bad versions of oranges and must be popular with people who have never had an orange.
Fresh mango Pina Coladas in Bermuda. Excellent!
Mangos are good for chutney. That’s all I can think of. When we lived in Bangkok, we had mango trees. I never liked them much. Now, a mangosteen is to die for.
My favorite food during 6 years in Afghanistan were mangoes from Pakistan. These were not the little ones found stateside. They were GIANT weighing at least a pound each. You have to let they ripen to get properly sweet. One cut around the middle, twist, and use a spoon to eat it and scrape the single huge seed. So good!
I wouldn't be sure that You were fed a real Mango if it tasted that bad.
