His uncle did disappear near New Guinea, so the story could be embellished that he was eaten by cannibals.
Pilot, or passenger of this A-20? No mention of enemy action.
Or maybe eaten by a great White Whale?
Or saved by Mermaids, who made him their King?
Or was marooned on an island of Lilliputians?

The aircraft had engine failure and went into the drink and most of those aboard died, this is sad. Still it has nothing to do with New Guinea as it never land-crashed.
