The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced the recall of nearly 4,000 Tesla Cybertrucks.
The recall involves all 2024 model year Cybertrucks that were made between November 13, 2023, and April 4, 2024, the NHTSA said.
The agency said that when “high force is applied to the pad on the accelerator pedal, the pad may dislodge, which may cause the pedal to become trapped in the interior trim above the pedal.”
If the trim gets stuck, it could increase the risk of a collision, but if a driver presses the brake simultaneously, it “will cut drive torque” even if both pedals are being pressed. If the driver continues to push the brake, the vehicle will stop as if the accelerator was not being pushed.
The pad may come off because “an unapproved change introduced lubricant (soap)” on the part, officials said.
Tesla will replace or “rework” the accelerator pedal assembly. Tesla stores and service centers were alerted to the issue on Friday, the NHTSA said. Cybertruck owners will receive a letter in June.
I saw one in the wild yesterday for the first time. Jacksonville, FL. Probably headed to the new Tesla dealership here for the recall. LOL.
My son sent me this short video yesterday. It well illustrates the problem.

“accelerator pedal”?
I prefer a gas pedal.
They are so ugly, putting them in the crusher would improve their looks.
I agree. As much as I admire Musk, that is one ugly-*ss vehicle.
First thought: Defect? That happens to my Toyota all the time. Second thought: Oh, wait... Toyota supposedly had a thing with the accelerator getting stuck that damned near ruined the company’s then-sterling reputation.
I see a goofy truck and a ridiculously large toy.
Looks like they’ve already been in the crusher.
But they’re SO affordable!
“The price of the 2024 Tesla Cybertruck starts at $81,895 and goes up to $101,985”

Looking at that video, I realize that they meant something fairly different from my Toyota. My Toyota floor pads can slide forward and interfere with the pedals. If this happens, and I quickly learned how to make sure it doesn’t, I can simply slide the floor pads back with my toe.
That Elon Musk is the Charles Ponzi of the 21st Century.
I dont see any crimes being committed short of accepting large sums of government subsidies to produce what the government wanted its serfs to drive without thinking of the infrastructure to keep it running. It seems Elon had an accomplice.
The cybertruck looks like a prop from a low-budget “futuristic” sci-fi flick.
The Ford has that timeless OBS look (I have a later version of that same truck, but without the humongous wheels and tires).
Go to a hardware store and get some Velcro.
You win. 👍👏
Yeah, those tires are a bit much.
Elon set the bar. There are some things I like about him and some things I don’t like. Smart and Batshit Crazy is tough combination.
