I don't know what few parts of California have concrete paths with guard rails.
Even Half Dome in Yosemite only has cables for part of the climb.
Mist Trail in Yosemite is in the top ten most dangerous trails in the U.S.
Between cliffs and waterfalls, there's plenty of risk:
You can fall off a cliff...
...or the cliff can fall from underneath you...
