You read my tagline, right?
How about Mary Chapin Carpenter? Upper class New Jersey, Ivy League Brown University. Once it’s on a mass media platform like radio, etc, it belongs to anyone who can do it.
I’m old and southern, but I’m not sure about the list.
“Train, Train” and “Highway Song” by Blackfoot
HELL YEAH!!
Molly Hatchet’s cover of The Allman Brothers’ “Dreams I’ll Never See” belongs on this list!
Dare I say “Better than the original!”
yes
southern England
down the street from Mark Knopfler
Danny Joe Brown was the best Southern Rock singer of them all.
My favorite southern rock song that is missing from this list is “Train Train” by Blackfoot. Best southern rock tune ever in my book.
Also ZZ Top (who is in my top 5 favorite bands of all time) is not southern rock.
Sweet Home Alabama and Free Bird have been so over played on radio that I no longer get excited to hear them. Both definitely belong on the list, though. Actually there could be 10 songs of theirs on the list and it wouldn’t be an injustice.
This is a good list but I am not seeing that this is the top 10. Missing .38 Special is an injustice. Also “Fire on the Mountain” or “Heard it in a Love Song” are better tunes from Marshall Tucker.

Check out the 1976 Knebworth concert videos of Skynyrd. Truly amazing presence and sound, at ease in front of a huge crowd and enjoying it all. A young band at its peak.
““Can’t you see” : Marshall Tucker Band”
I love that song! And Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Tuesday’s Gone” is one of my favorite songs of all time. Any song by the Allman Brothers is on my play list. Southern rock is the best music that ever existed. There was something about the 70s that was so free and the music reflected that feeling.
My favorite, too. Not just my favorite Southern rocker. Pretty much my favorite musician.
My kids think we’re a little funny. We listen to TP somehow, someway, pretty much every single day. I’m hooked though. I can always find some version of a song that I’ve never heard before…or maybe in a long time.
Boring for many, but he has a varied playlist.
I think that’s a great choice!
I do think Mudcrutch has the Southern rock influence more than the rest of TP’s work.
I love Mudcrutch. June Apple is one of my faves. Also love Crystal River (the live version especially). Truthfully, I could rattle off most every one of their songs as a favorite. Not all are southern rock, but so many are just beautiful songs.
Mike Campbell is an amazing guitarist. I’ve long said that he should be listed up there as one of the best. Few agree with me, but I think Campbell is very talented.
I love ZZ Top. Not as much as some might, but I think they’re awesome. Hoping to see them live this summer.

Geeze, I was in a couple classic rock bands as a bass player/singer and we covered ALL of those songs and many many more.
No, it wasn’t a play on words.
I got to hang out with Gregg Allman for a few hours at an outdoor concert once. My friend’s dad was the promoter so we got to go anywhere on the grounds. Found ourselves walking around the tour buses and ran into him. He invited us into his bus and we just talked. It was right after his breakup with Cher. Main thing I remember was getting high AF.
I HATE Freebird. Drags on and on and on.
“And this bird you cannot cha-AA-aa-AA-aa-AA-aa-AAnge....”
