O.J. Simpson Murder Trial Witness Releases Video After Star's Death
Newsweek ^ | 4/11/24 | Kaitlin Lewis

Posted on 04/11/2024 12:09:47 PM PDT by DallasBiff

Kato Kaelin, a key witness during O.J. Simpson's murder trial in 1995, issued a video statement Thursday afternoon offering his condolences to Simpson's family following the ex-NFL star's death.

"Foremost, I'd like to express my condolences to the children to Sydney and to Justin to Jason and Arnelle," Kaelin said in the message shared to X, formerly Twitter. "They've lost their father and that is never easy."

Simpson's family announced on Thursday that their father has passed away at the age of 76 after battling cancer.

Simpson played 11 NFL seasons, nine of them with the Buffalo Bills. He won four NFL rushing titles and played in five Pro Bowls. He later had a career in show business before being acquitted in a 1995 trial of charges he killed his former wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman.

Kaelin also addressed the families of Goldman and Brown Simpson.

"I wish to express my love and compassion to the Goldmans, to Fred into Kim. "I hope you find closure," he said. "And finally, to the family of the beautiful Nicole Brown Simpson. May we always cherish her memories. Nicole was a beacon of light that burden bright. May we never forget her."

Every single lawyer on that defense team was reprehensible.

But they are praised as "courageous" by the media and other attorneys, like attorneys who represent murderers, rapists, child molesters and terrorists.

Meanwhile, attorneys that had the gall to represent Trump are being disbarred, criminally prosecuted and/or sued into bankruptcy.

I think every one of those attorneys is dead except for Dershowitz!!!

Barry Scheck is still around.

I understand why the jury only deliberated for a few minutes. If I had been sequestered for months and forced to listen to that drivel day after day, I wouldn't have wanted to deliberate either. I just would have wanted to get the hell away.

Nobody is complaining about how quick the verdict was. The complaint is that it was absolutely wrong.

They should have instantly come back with a "guilty" verdict, because the evidence of guilt was massive.

I can’t remember the exact circumstances of how that issue came up in the trial, but I wonder how many judges would have even allowed that line of questioning in the first place. Inflammatory testimony that’s not deemed relevant to a case is often prohibited.

I knew it was a farce from the git go...

appointing a white female head prosecutor?..come on...black women hate white women and the jury was mostly black women...

judge ito?...allowing some hearsay from yrs ago from a detective and letting that carry on for several sessions?....

allowing the perp to try on leather gloves while he himself had latex gloves on?....

everyone had to know the fix was in and it would be a racist jury with the brain cells of a mouse to come out in 2hrs and claim not guilty....it would have taken 2 hrs for them to get thru 2-3 pages of actual evidence but they ignored it....

“”Furman didn’t have to lie about the use of the N word. That blew the case. It’s his fault.””

Fuhrman didn’t lie! The question put to him by Bailey had a time frame attached to it - had he used it in the “last year” (or another time not clear now) and Fuhrman said, “NO”. It was as clear as day what Bailey said and what he did with it and why...It should have been caught immediately..

Bailey then asked him if someone said otherwise, would they be lying and Fuhrman said very clearly, “YES, they would”....The tape that wannabe filmmaker dug up was from 10 years or so back - not in the past year referred to by Bailey...Fuhrman hadn’t said it in the time frame Bailey used.

A fine point maybe but hey, when the guy’s reputation as an excellent LAPD detective was on the line, that fine point counted or IT SHOULD HAVE! Marcia Clark never picked up on it.

Further Fuhrman had a personal black friend on the LAPD who went to bat for him in the perjury trial..there may have been others but one I remember but not his name. Ron something?? Played ball with Fuhrman...

If I still had Van Atter or Lange or Chris Darden or Marcia Clark books, I would be able to tell you exactly what time frame Bailey used...I remember it very clearly..

“”Barry Scheck is still around. “”

He has the “Innocence Project”, right? He had a partner whose name I don’t recall but Scheck was the most outspoken.

I thought at the time it was sure funny what DNA results mean when the defense is using them and they’re wrong when prosecutors use them.

“”Dershowitz wasn’t exactly an attorney on the case.””

That’s somewhat how I remember - I was looking forward to seeing him but I don’t recall him being very front and center and I watched on tape every second of the trial besides listening to the trial on the radio during the day at my desk...

Crazy and funny.....You have to wonder if Kurt Russell was in the habit of embellishing stories - he was at OJ’s the night of the “chase” and a close encounter with Ted Bundy?? Well, maybe and maybe not - makes for good stories anyway!

After learning Scheck started the "Innocence Project", I took it to mean what he learned about DNA from the OJ Trial convinced him DNA is nearly perfect at proving guilt or innocence.

He knew OJ was guilty. The trial convinced him that DNA was nearly infallible.

I think I remember Robert Shapiro, but I have no recollection of Carl Douglas.

They were all a rotten bunch so far as I was concerned.

“”I understand why the jury only deliberated for a few minutes””

It wasn’t a few minutes - 4 hours...and it certainly wouldn’t have been a picnic being sequestered all that time for sure.

I don’t believe Kato was on the stand for 3 days...the relevance was he saw OJ the night of the murders and went with him to get something to eat. As I remember it, OJ told him he was going to get something to eat and Kato asked if he minded if he went with him. He SAID he didn’t see anything strange about the evening...EXCEPT maybe for the “thumps” on the wall of his room where the a/c was sticking out in a pathway that maybe someone ran into....

Funny to relive that trial and events of the night now. OJ had attended his daughter’s recital that night - and Nicole and her family were there and all went to dinner after and OJ wasn’t invited and the DA seemed to think he was upset about being left out. Nicole’s mother had left her glasses at the restaurant and she told Nicole and Nicole called the restaurant to have Ron Goldman drop them off at her condo..

For anyone interested in the whole mess, probably Vince Bugliosi’s book is the best of them - so many were written...his book was “Why OJ Got Away With Murder” or close enough anyway...I don’t have any of the books anymore.

The trial would have had a different outcome if he’d been the prosecutor on the case - he prosecuted Manson...

I don’t know but it would be interesting to get inside his brain anyway...

The look alone on Kardashian’s face at the NOT GUILTY verdict spoke volumes....I still think he got rid of the knife when he took the hanging wardrobe case of OJ’s at the house that night when the cops took OJ away. I remember searches were made in the alley behind Nicole’s condo where there were fences and a knife could have been thrown out there - something about nicks in picket fences that could have been caused by a thrown object. So many possibilities!

That’s why mysteries are called mysteries.

“”but I have no recollection of Carl Douglas.””

I couldn’t come up with his name - I was thinking “Lewis” but you’re right - he was a cohort of Johnny Cochran..teaching him the ropes, I guess. He was the youngest one on the team. I don’t remember him having a big role but he was support, I guess or there for lessons on how to defend guilty parties!!!
