Antarctica's average annual temperature ranges from about −10°C on the coast to −60°C at the highest parts of the interior.

I'd be more inclined to believe they are "disappearing" because of being covered with more snow and ice. Plus, the Sun gets about 15° above the horizon. Melting my arse.
