Research suggests that a cup of tea can help in the fight against COVID-19.
Findings demonstrate how certain teas inactivate SARS-CoV-2 in saliva—in some cases by up to 99.9%. This is important because the virus infects and replicates inside the oral cavity, passing through the oropharynx before reaching the lungs.
"Inactivating SARS-CoV-2 in the mouth and the throat matters because that potentially reduces the introduction of the virus to the lower respiratory system," Esseili said.
Esseili and Julianna Morris studied 24 different types of commercially available teas, some of which claim to aid in respiratory health. Of those, they found five that significantly reduced the virus in saliva: raspberry zinger, eucalyptus mint, mint medley, green tea and black tea, with black tea showing the greatest reduction. All testing was done in the laboratory in simulated conditions.
The team tested the efficacy of tea both as a drink and as a gargle to provide an option for those do not want to drink tea but want a highly concentrated rinse that would provide the same benefits.
Researchers prepared a drinkable infusion concentration using one tea bag per cup steeped for 10 minutes, with no additions such as milk or sugar. All five teas reduced the virus by at least 96% within 10 seconds in the mouth. Black tea was the most effective, reducing the virus by 99.9%. When tested as a gargle, they brewed the tea at four times the concentration of the drinkable infusion, finding that all five varieties of tea reduced the virus by 99.9% within 10 seconds when gargled.
"At this stage, we are not suggesting tea as a stand-alone intervention against SARS-CoV-2, because the virus also replicates in the nose and may have already reached the lung by the time a person tests positive," Esseili said.

Bleach can do better than that...LOL
Or Whiskey.
Since no virus has ever been isolated, no way tea against virus has been studied. Aren’t you getting tired of this BS yet?
Guess I’m gonna die.
I’m allergic to any
type of caffinated tea.
Makes my heart race a
million miles an hour,
pretty much like taking
a beni.
Don’t see why not. It’s black Chinese and Indian.
Brought to you by... the American council on tea cultivation and importers. Don’t forget to wash your hands.
Better pack some teabags.
I don’t recall him ever posting articles promoting re the clot shot. (I could be wrong.) The posts are just informational with no opinion one way or another. At least, that has a always been my take on it.
I have a new PCP, and when she brought up the vax subject, my glare was enough to make her move on. Ditto re the flu shot.
My eyes glaze over when reading the linked medical articles, so I didn’t do it.
Did it mention how many cups, or gargles, per day?
Or a shot of whiskey.
However, while helping saliva,
A respiratory virus or bacteria invades the nose, the main point of entry into the body. Immediately, the front of the nose detects the germ, well before the back of the nose is aware of the intruder, the team discovered. At that point, cells lining the nose immediately begin creating billions of simple copies of themselves called extracellular vesicles, or EV’s. “EV’s can’t divide like cells can, but they are like little mini versions of cells specifically designed to go and kill these viruses,” Bleier said. “EV’s act as decoys, so now when you inhale a virus, the virus sticks to these decoys instead of sticking to the cells.”
Those “Mini Me’s” are then expelled by the cells into nasal mucus (yes, snot), where they stop invading germs before they can get to their destinations and multiply. “This is one of, if not the only part of the immune system that leaves your body to go fight the bacteria and viruses before they actually get into your body,” Bleier said. Cells in the body also contain a viral killer called micro RNA, which attack invading germs. Yet EVs in the nose contained 13 times micro RNA sequences than normal cells, the study found.
So the nose comes to battle armed with some extra superpowers. But what happens to those advantages when cold weather hits?... “What we found is that when you’re exposed to cold air, the temperature in your nose can drop by as much as 9 degrees Fahrenheit. And that’s enough to essentially knock out all three of those immune advantages that the nose has,” Bleier said. In fact, that little bit of coldness in the tip of the nose was enough to take nearly 42% of the extracellular vesicles out of the fight, Bleier said. - https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/06/health/why-winter-colds-flu-wellness/index.html
She left Kaiser 3 months later.
I wonder how Mullein Leaf tea would compare in these test. I couldn’t find the list of 24. Back in 2019 I had a SARs (covid?) episode/acute exacerbation event. I attribute the Mullein leaf tea to saving my life. I could not cough up the phlegm in my lungs and the tea brought it right out. This is definitely part of my covid kit now.
That reminds me, I’ve gotta’ get some more Darjeeling. Got plenty of English Breakfast tea.
Thank you for that. This perfectly describes my nose’s reaction to the “new” stick-in-the-nose covid test. I was livid after reading about the manufacturing process. Can you say nanoparticles...
Respectfully, I have to doubt this one. My husband drinks at least 4 Lipron teas a day and still managed to get Covid twice. Granted, his immune system isn’t strong, but for him, black tea didn’t help. That’s not to say, of course, that it can’t have some medicinal value, like other teas.
I've never once seen you speak out against cannibalism. Do you like the people meat?
Please ignore the haters. Your posts are appreciated.
Also, aptly named rightwingmadman was drunk posting on Cronos’ Huey Lewis thread, too.
So don’t take it personally.
On 2 occasions during these Covid years, my nose has suddenly started running like a faucet. I normally take 6 or 7 grams a day of Vitamin C for respiratory allergies. Those 2 times I was taking a gram of C every 1 to 3 hours including if I woke up at night. Probably 12 to 14 grams in 24 hours. At any rate the next day my symptoms were completely gone. I had NEVER had my nose run like that before and I am 85.
Quercetin is one of the ionophores you can take with Zinc to stop viruses. EGCG from green teas is another ionophore for Zinc. Some people have doctors who will give them the ionophore HCQ or Ivermectin which are stronger working with Zinc.
