Tesla's quarterly deliveries declined for the first time in nearly four years and fell short of Wall Street analysts' estimates amid a challenging competitive landscape in the EV market and questions regarding the company's direction.
The Elon Musk-led automaker's stock declined by 4.9% during Tuesday's trading session and slid a further 0.28% in after hours trading, with the stock down nearly 33% on the year. That followed Tesla's announcement that it delivered roughly 387,000 vehicles in the first quarter – well below expectations of about 443,000 and an 8.5% decrease compared to the first quarter of last year.
"Let's call this as it is: While we were anticipating a bad 1Q, this was an unmitigated disaster 1Q that is hard to explain away," Dan Ives, managing director and equity analyst of Wedbush Securities, wrote in a note to investors.

Peak EV?
Only so many people wanting an electric car
I think Teslas are great but they are only practical as a second or third car for the wealthy. Everyone else has to make major compromises to own one.
I’ll be lmao when the Tesla battery apocalypse starts to hit.
Stock market had rough ending again, DJIA down 1.35%
RE: Only so many people wanting an electric car
When’s the last time a Dem ruler in the government asked us what we lowly subject wanted?
Musk Bad. Media said so.
Challenging competitive landscape? As other automakers are actually laying off/closing/dramatically cutting EV production?
No - people are waking up to the insanity of the forced shift of EV - seeing through the hype. Even some environmental extremists are starting to wake up to the bigger picture.
Musk isn’t dumb. He knows Tesla isn’t sustainable over the long term.
I’ve been saying for a while now that Musk will go back to making gas vehicles...within 5 years....after Trump gets rid of all this EV mandate sh**.
And he can’t compete with China...
The vast majority of Americans don’t want electric cars. It’s that simple.
The old Fords....
Why is a Ford like a bathtub?
You’d never want to be seen in one.
And outlawing gas stoves?? Are they nuts??
Pepsico explains how it uses Tesla Semi electric trucks in glimpse of the future of trucking
Pepsico explained that it uses most of its 21 Tesla Semi electric trucks for deliveries within 100 miles with several stops. They operate for up to 12 hours a day.
Dejan Antunovic, electrification program manager at Pepsico, explained that three of the Tesla Semi trucks are dedicated to long-haul trucking, with routes that vary between 250 to 450 miles.
To support that, Tesla has been installing 750 kW Megachargers at Pepsico facilities. They enable charging to 80% capacity in less than 45 minutes.
Pepsico noted the difficulty of installing that much charging power at a facility and said that they will use what they learned from this experience to plan for future depots that will be electrified.
