Famous “Law and Order” and “Charlotte” actress, Angie Harmon, said an Instacart delivery man shot and killed her dog.
Harmon wrote a lengthy post to her Instagram account Monday detailing the horror that allegedly happened at her front door. “This Easter weekend a man delivering groceries for Instacart shot & killed our precious Oliver,” she wrote. “He got out of his car, delivered the food & THEN shot our dog.” The actress posted a video and photographs of her small dog as she paid tribute to her beloved family pet.
Harmon went on to share more details with her 584,000 Instagram followers.
“Our ring camera was charging in the house, which he saw & then knew he wasn’t being recorded,” she said.
The actress explained that police were involved in the matter, but much to her dismay, they weren’t able to give her the closure she needed.
“The police let him go b/c he claimed ‘self defense’. He did not have a scratch or bite on him nor were his pants torn,” Harmon wrote.
The star said she was not expecting this particular person to be at her doorstep in the first place.
“He was shopping under a woman’s identity named Merle… the pic is on my story,” she said.
She followed up with some more disturbing information.
“He shot our dog with my daughters & myself at home & just kept saying, ‘yeah, I shot your dog. Yeah I did.’ We are completely traumatized & beyond devastated at the loss of our beloved boy & family member. #RIP OLLIE 🐶🐾🕊️🌈” she wrote.
Harmon turned off the comments on her social media account.

As someone show been attacked by a dog,you think I’m letting it actually get its teeth into me before I shoot it you’re nuts.
Don’t know what happened here but, the odds the guys just randomly decided to shoot the dog are not zero, but the odds the dog was aggressive are almost certainly higher.
And you know that for a fact?
So tell us, what exactly are the facts?
Cut to the chase, what are you implying and based on what concrete evidence to support whatever claim you are trying to make?
Are Freepers going after Angie Harmon because she is a Hollywood actress? A few facts, her main residence is in North Carolina, she was born in Texas. Angie HAD four dogs, neither of these dogs are the one that was killed, which was about thirty pounds. This dog was a friendly, non-aggressive animal. She owns a very private property, has never had any reason to believe this dog was a danger. Maybe the real aggressor was the shooter, after all, Angie lives in a private area with her three daughters. Did the dog sense danger?
Fact not in evidence.
Dog owners routinely say their dog was friendly, not aggressive, would never hurt anyone...
They say this even when there is incontrovertible evidence such is not the case.
Just because a dog owner says their dog was friendly, not aggressive, would never hurt anyone is not good evidence their dog was friendly, not aggressive, and would not hurt people in this case. It just shows their view of the dog as a member of their family.
It is similar to "my son would never hurt anyone" complaint of a mother after her son just killed two people in a convenience store robbery.
Did you read what I wrote or just knee jerk.
Go back and read everything written
Ok. hate doing this but….. My son and his family are good friends with Angie Harmon, they know and have been with the poor dog that was shot. It was a thirty pound, friendly, non aggressive animal. Since I don’t know anyone who knows the shooter who advertised himself as a woman Instacart delivery person and shows up as a man……..I’m going with the dog. .
Criminal intent.
That is going to rely a lot on the police report(s).
Thank you for your personal input. It adds to the conversation.
Per the article, the camera was charging inside at the time.
I did. The company is likely in trouble, but there may not be anything which can legally be done to the man, though if there is an angle, I expect they are going to try to find it.
The company's money won't bring back her dog, or get her any revenge.
There are a lot more dog bites than asteroids hitting the earth.
There are many times as many dogs biting people than there are people shooting dogs in the street, calling the police, and claiming self defense (in an area likely to be monitored and recorded).
The existing evidence shows Harmon negligent, and irresponsible while she invited a person on to her property and did not provide for that person's safety. That is addressable by tort.
The Legal system will decide whom is liable civilly and criminally.
The police will determine if they have evidence deliveryman has violated a criminal statute.
Otherwise, Harmon will have to use her money to persecute said deliveryman.
If the police do nothing and Harmon gets nothing we'll have an answer, as the deliveryman's side of the story was only voiced in court.
The police have investigated and TMZ reports:"cops have already concluded he was justified, but they won't say why.
TMZ has made repeated calls to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Dept., asking them why they concluded the deliveryman acted in self-defense, but all they said was, "... a delivery driver arrived at the residence to deliver consumable goods. The driver told officers that a dog attacked him while he was at the residence and that he defended himself by firing a single gunshot, striking and mortally wounding the dog."
The police told us the case was closed...
Cops add there is not enough evidence to charge the deliveryman with a crime, noting there was no video of the shooting.
Link: Cops Refuse to Say Specifically Why Deliveryman Shot and Killed DogThe Police quickly determined that they cannot prove the deliveryman committed a crime.
Additionally, they are unwilling to waste additional time in the hopes that a tiny legal technicality will incriminate the deliveryman.
Police are not stupid, they have concluded that this guy was in reasonable fear, and it was an uncontrolled dog.
Lastly from the evidence Harmon provided, one can see the deliveryman has made more than 6000 food shopping deliveries, considerable experience.
And he has shot only one dog using one round.
He's reasonably restrained, as are the Police.
Harmon is not.
I think you have a warped view of reality, and are simply accepting as fact unproven assertions and ignoring any evidence contrary to what you wish to believe.
One of the things I noticed and most disliked about this thread was the willingness of so many people to make snap judgements on the basis of very little provable evidence.
As a matter of fact, it is something that I have come to notice on numerous other topics. People leap to a conclusion and then demand with smug certainty that their view of events is absolutely correct. The thought that they might not know some critical bit of information never occurs to them.
Wise men are uncertain, but fools are always sure of themselves.
The person in the thread who knows this family says the dog is 30 pounds and is very friendly to people outside of the immediate family.
A 30 pound dog being a threat?
:)
In the General/Chat forum, on a thread titled Delivery Man Mercilessly Kills Angie Harmon’s Dog, mewzilla wrote: BTW, anyone else have a problem with that headline...
It’s biased as bleep...
Yes. I think I would have responded differently to an objective title and objective reporting, and a dog owner not using their disproportionate social 'megaphone' to try to cancel someone. The playing field is not equal in the celebrity court of public opinion. Harmon posted his profile online and her fans are saying 'get him'; I'm disgusted.
With profoundly biased reporting posing Harmon as 100% responsibility free and the driver a 'mercilous' killer, I automatically move to point out the details ignored or distorted.
If the problem is the driver was not bitten, there seems to be an expectation that a person must wait until a dog rips a vein open before deciding the dog is a threat. The fact that the other dog did not threaten the driver and the driver did not shoot the non-threatening dog doesn't seem 'mercilous' to me.
The MSM reported this as a 'damsel in distress versus villain', and now an actress (Hollywood television royalty) will use her fandom to flatten a 'commoner' (delivery driver). Maybe delivery drivers should refuse to deliver to her house so they do not run the risk of having their life ruined if she gets another dog that size and doesn't secure him either.
“Our ring camera was charging in the house, which he saw & then knew he wasn’t being recorded,” she said. "
That part's just weird. This kind of dark accusation, that in the midst of a dog attack he 'knew' something about the camera, like he's there to kill something and sees that the 'coast is clear'. Pairing this kind of distorted story (the title, the slant, the sinister accusation re camera) with her fanbase and posting his profile is frankly creepy and unfair of her.
“...one will confess that one has never disliked Angie Harmon, if this is the Ms. Harmon that one seems to recall from a couple of TV shows or whatever, at all...”
One?
And you are accusing the person who wrote the title of being biased?
30 lb dogs do not normally "rip a vein open." This one was said to be friendly by people who were not members of the family.
ruined if she gets another dog that size and doesn't secure him either.
And as I have been told by the same person who mentioned the dog only weighs 30 lbs, Harmon lives in a mostly rural area, and it is the norm in rural areas to allow dogs to roam freely.
I feel sorry for those of you who must live in town and must therefore keep your dogs penned up.
Move out to the country. You can play your music as loud as you want, have bonfires, fire guns, let your dogs run around chasing rabbits, and you don't have @$$hole neighbors calling the cops on you or getting into your business.
I've lived in a medium sized city for half of my life, and I grew up in a city, but I can tell you I absolutely prefer the much more hassle free life in the Country.
Some of you people just don't seem to grasp how differently people see things in the country versus the city. I'll wager this idiot that shot that dog is a city person, and I shall not be surprised to learn he is a member of the "Amish" community. (Also known as "Yutes.")
I suspect the police really really do not want to start something with anyone belonging to the "Amish" community if they can help it.
