We’re in east TN and know nothing about gardening. Looking at sweet daphne (daphne odor) as something to plant here and there around the house.

Will it be good in our area?

I read that it is poisonous to people and animals, so worry about all the deer we have in the area. Maybe deer aren’t attracted to this plant ...? Does anybody know?

You are in Hardiness Zone 7, so Sweet (Winter) Daphne should be very happy at your place! Deer and rabbits avoid it. Morning sun with afternoon shade is ideal for planting. If you have any Hydrangea, treat them the same as far as location goes. Yes, all parts of it are toxic, but I’m sure it tastes awful if animals avoid it, so I doubt kids or house pets would be interested in anything other than smelling the flowers.
