Lawmakers have long shied away from serious discussions about entitlement reform, but the issue appears to be coming back into focus for Republicans who are wary about the growing national debt.
"I definitely have noticed it," veteran GOP strategist Doug Heye told Fox News Digital of the uptick in GOP-led discussions on the issue. "Republicans have talked about this for a long time, not always with specifics. But what tends to happen is, they talk about it, they get attacked, they fall back."
Congress just ended the fiscal year 2024 government-funding fight with President Biden signing a $1.2 trillion spending package into law last week and averting a partial government shutdown. But the ugly battle, which took six additional months after the end of fiscal year 2023, only accounted for the government’s discretionary spending – which makes up just over a quarter of annual federal funds..........

Don't worry, Joe Biden will keep giving away the resources to Illegals, DEI, HAMAS, Ukraine while increasing the Budgets of State, CIA, DOJ. Everything to watch Americans suffer.
It would prolly be much better off if they would stop giving it to illegal aliens and other grifters.
Can’t fix Social Security until Government bloat is fixed: bloat in defense, bloat in education, bloat in regulations that slow the economy down, bloat in medical regulations......but leave it to Republicans to go straight to talking about SS. Almost like they want to lose.
Bankrupt hardly. When does any wellfare and asylum $$$ go bankrupt? Never.
No one is going to change it. They will just have to take what's needed out of the government funds...SS, Medicar... different from other entitlement programs...the receiver pays for it.
The media are playing games with this. They post this and then post....Brandon swears he will never touch it...but it would take both parties for any change.
The problem’s there but it’s not staring us in the face. Human nature. Covid was there and the left threw gasoline on the fire as people were dying.
SSI will have to go 100% private and it will have to be done after the election without it being a campaign issue. The rats will push the granny over the cliff line just like they did with Covid. They won’t be the problem. Think rinos and never-Trumpers.
The GOPe does type of "talk" this every POTUS election year. This year to sabotage Trump.
I found this article and found it amusing and frustrating at the same time-—the bolded header in the article:
“The federal government does borrow money from Social Security, but it’s required to pay back the money with interest.”
LOL—are the politicians paying all of this back with their personal stash of cash? No, we are the ones paying more and receiving less of what we put in-—Because politicians are using it to buy votes.
We have a lot of big problems right now.
Yes, in general, talking about problems, recognizing that they are problems, is an important step toward eventually solving the problems.
But talking about Social Security is a guarantee that you will lose the election and never have any chance to solve any problems at all.
So, talking about Social Security is just dumb.
Unless you are a Republican who wants to lose the election so that Donald Trump can’t solve any problems at all with a Democrat-controlled legislature.
More like, leave it to Fox News trying really hard to help the Dims during an election year by painting the Republicans as the people who'll take your SS away from you and push grandma over the cliff.
If you an American citizen the SS age will now be 85 and if you are an illegal newcomer it will be 45.
SS & Medicare are just a mere part of the problem. Excess spending on needless and harmful bureaucracies and perpetual wars is the problem.
None of the will be resolved until we get elected leaders that want to actually rein in the federal spending and start paying off debt. As said in Nam: “Neva hatchy, GI”.
A trap. Reps should avoid talking about entitlement reform until after the 2024 elections.
The Medicare Trust Fund (HI) is exhausted in 3031 according to the latest Trustees Report. By law, benefits must then be reduced to revenue received. 40% of all Medicare costs come from the General Fund, mainly due to Part B costs, which by law, Medicare only pays for 25% of the costs. The rest comes from the GF.
Entitlement costs will only increase as 10,000 baby boomers reach 65 every day until 2030.
We must take it away and give it to the Ukraine, Israel, and NASA to go to the moon.
Priorities are important.
Here we go again, Democrats scaring seniors into thinking that the Republicans are going to take your social security.
The GOOBer’s may want to think first about stopping SS and Medicare to AMERICANS as long as they continue spending billions on the “American Dream” for freeloading Illegal Alien maggots from all over the planet. So called “asylum” is providing somebody a safe place to live if they’re too cowardly to remain in the own country. It does NOT consist of FREE FOOD, MONEY, DIAPERS, CELLPHONES FOR THE FAMILY, A ROOM AT A 5 STAR HOTEL, EDUCATION FOR THE KIDDIES, FREE COLLEGE EDUCATION, CARS, HEALTHCARE FOR THE EXTENDED FAMILY, FREE FLIGHTS TO AMERICA, HIRING PREFORANCE OVER AMERICANS, FREE BALLOTS TO VOTE FOR SHYSTER POLITICIANS WHO WILL GIVE YOU THESE THINGS IF YOU VOTE FOR THEM OR ANY OTHER BENEFITS PAID FOR BY HARDWORKING AMERICAN FAMILIES.
The rats are going to brow beat us on abortion, social security and threats to democracy.n be
Social Security is not an entitlement.
“The federal government does borrow money from Social Security, but it’s required to pay back the money with interest.”
Like money borrowed from foreign entities creating the National Debt? Once borrowed we will never get it back. A moon base or war is more important. And there are those here on SS and Medicare who actually agree...
