Lawmakers have long shied away from serious discussions about entitlement reform, but the issue appears to be coming back into focus for Republicans who are wary about the growing national debt.
"I definitely have noticed it," veteran GOP strategist Doug Heye told Fox News Digital of the uptick in GOP-led discussions on the issue. "Republicans have talked about this for a long time, not always with specifics. But what tends to happen is, they talk about it, they get attacked, they fall back."
Congress just ended the fiscal year 2024 government-funding fight with President Biden signing a $1.2 trillion spending package into law last week and averting a partial government shutdown. But the ugly battle, which took six additional months after the end of fiscal year 2023, only accounted for the government’s discretionary spending – which makes up just over a quarter of annual federal funds..........

I believe many of the posters on the board feel that this shouldn’t be addressed pre-election by Republicans. I agree. Nobody is going to be happy with what has to be done.
Getting rid of the Democrats and Joe Biden is the first step to addressing the problem, because they are deliberately accelerating the destruction. America needs to understand that 8T of national spending means 4-5T of National debt a year. That’s a future killer for America.
Watch Americans suffer.
Every act he’s done for 3 tears is a plan for it the agenda and it will get more dangerous as November nears.
Communism will win if we don’t it’s that simple as evidence shows.

The media will convince everyone that you want old people to starve. Congratulations. You just lose your election. And now you cannot “get” Joe Biden and the Democrats. Now they have all the power in the world. Power to give Social Security to illegal immigrants. All because you thought promising to “fix” Social Security was a good thing to talk about
>
Good. The voters should get the govt they voted & deserve...hard & often.
‘Cuz the (R)N(C) merely nibbles around the edges, instead of going for FIXES (AKA: ELIMINATING these illegal/unconst. Ponzi schemes)
Course if they dared to pull the curtain back on the $200T+ in ‘unfunded liabilities’, the whole house of cards crumbles almost instantly.
The Stupid Party base merely believes THEIR party was better , going over the (financial) cliff ‘cuz they drove 60MPH instead of 90 *facepalm*
“Social Security benefits and Medicare are NOT entitlement programs. Recipients pay into the programs out of every paycheck they receive all their working lives for Social Security.”
Of course... I said nothing about this at all. You obviously misunderstood my statement. Read it again.
Look, The Demoncrats will demonize the GOP for this talk, and as soon as the “selections” are over in November they will do it and pocket the bucks for themselves.
>
Republicans are idiots. We’re 7 months from election and they are talking cutting social security and IVF treatments. Clearly they want to lose.
>
Course! Just look @ the last time they were given the keys to the kingdom
Pre-election: Look, we passed anti-ACA 7X. Vote for us & we’ll repeal it!
Post: Uh, we can’t re-pass ANY of those 7 bills. We can run ACA ‘better’ than the (D)
...
Sp. Johnson ‘today’: Govt shutdown?? Negotiate CUTS? HELL naw. Here, Joe, here’s EVERYTHING you wanted...& more.
The Stupid Party base: I’m gonna vote the ‘lesser of 2’...again. Maybe it’ll be diff. this time
*spit*
Exactly right. The problem is the government manages things on the basis of political considerations instead of prudent efficiency and fiscal accountability.
The highest priorities of the government are doing whatever it takes to stay in power and secondarily to expansion the size, scope and power of itself.
Its all about self-interest, not good stewardship.
The Stupid Party

Stupid yes, but also Weak and Feckless.
GOP = Gutless Old Party

Social Security benefits and Medicare are NOT entitlement programs. Recipients pay into the programs out of every paycheck they receive all their working lives for Social Security, and we pay $143 per month now that we are retired for Medicare Advantage (Part B) and it comes directly out of our Social Security benefit. Without Part B, Medicare is basically bare bones coverage.
>
No, we’re TAXED for an ILLEGAL (unconst) Ponzi scheme entitlement. N-O-B-O-D-Y “paid” into *poop*
If it WERE ‘yours’, YOU could take it @ any time YOU wanted, bequeathed via will+

True dat...just look @ some of these replies
“Politicians should wait ‘til they’re hired before (merely) TALKING about {X}”. As if hood-winking wouldn’t damage their (re)election chances, let alone they’ll never actually F-I-X...anything, ‘cuz that == eliminating govt from {X} *shakes head*

BWAHAHAhahahhaha. Didn’t Sp. Johnson JUST give the checkbook over to Joe?? He had *THE* (latest) opportunity (’cuz this happens nearly EVERY year as they haven’t passed a REAL budget in *checks notes* decades) to negotiate REAL cuts.
Yet, instead of ‘being the adults’, some on FR turn & support FRAUD upon the voters.
That whole ‘small govt’ B.S. finally died from the (R)N(C)’s lips in ‘16. THAT was the fraud, yet y’all kept holding your nose.
You don’t think the People understand $30T last year => $35T this year?? What do you think THEY care when ESPN is on?
I have YET to hear ANY (R)N(C), maybe aside from Massie/Paul, lay it out, let alone on repeat: “We’re BROKE (not JUST $35T, but > $200T) & your CHILDREN will be (economically) enslaved unless we face the cold, hard truth of {X}. Suck it up NOW & eliminate a bigger hurt in the near future.”
Course, again, (R) aren’t there to FIX anything, just run it so it all collapses in 25 yrs instead of 15 (just interest on the debt ALONE)
But they have plenty of money for Ukraine.
Touch my Social Security and I’ll shank you.
Well, Medicare and SS are actually earned benefits. People paid for them with their taxes.
Guv. just bankrupted them, because it used them to pay for other expenditures.
What shall be shut down are all the subsidies for whatever goodies Guv. wants.
The get rid of Medicaid and welfare, nobody earned these benefits!
And finally, cut the Federal workforce by 90%!
After that, then maybe SS and Medicare.
Notice the Republicans never warm to the idea of cutting welfare to illegals or shutting down all the unnecessary governmental agencies. 🙄
I’ll go along with walking back Bush 43’s prescription drug benefit, but that’s where it ends.
Real Social Security gets paid out of worker paychecks. Real Social Security pays for itself many times over. Plus, it’s supposed to pay for Medicaid and “disability” for non-retirees welfare slugs?
You mean it can’t? Gee. Go figure.
Get rid of Medicaid and “disability” (SSDI).
GOP lines up to make sure they will lose the fall election.
Very frustrating. Your post is 100 percent correct
Universal health care is coming.
Blame Rand Paul! He keeps bringing it up.
