I read up briefly on that particular engine. It’s actually designed as a “dual fuel” engine, 2 stroke as noted, that runs on fuel oil (diesel) and LNG. Based on the big puff of black smoke, I’m going to ascertain that it’s running on diesel in the single video that I saw.

Impressive amount of torque - and at 84 RPM. Most cars idle at 500-800 RPM.

Noting that many barges and ‘big freighters’ run on “bunker” or 6-oil, I wonder if that was what Dali had in the tank.

Just something we always had on hand at the terminal in Chicago (Lake Calumet).

A little math conversion - the 8.5 million Nm = 6, 269,278 lb-ft of torque. That’s HYUGE!

A strong diesel pickup truck might approach 800-1000 lb-ft, and Ford’s big “Godzilla” 7.3L gasoline V8 (trucks only) produces around 450 lb-ft.

I want one in MY truck too!

Yup. These 40K + HP engines are the size of a house. The bores are big enough for a full grown man to stand inside and the pistons are like oil drums stacked up. 90 rpm is pretty much an upper limit for engines this big and at that size the speed is still pretty impressive. The largest props I’m familiar with are 16 feet in dia and that’s a lot of swinging bronze. Our super carriers use 4 of them. I expect props have gotten bigger than that for these big guys.

Yes, but car engines aren't directly connected to the wheels.

Life would be very different if they were.
