Ukraine destroyed a Russian tanker that Moscow used for surveillance and for deploying first-person-view (FPV) drones in southern Ukraine, according to Kyiv's military.

Ukraine's air force conducted a "successful strike" on the Russian-flagged Mechanik Pogodin on Tuesday, Kyiv's navy said in a statement.

Ukraine said Russia's military was using the vessel as a command center, with the ship serving to launch FPV drones and to carry electronic warfare (EW) equipment. Kyiv said the use of the vessel for surveillance and control made the tanker a legitimate military target.

A brief video posted by Ukraine's armed forces appeared to show the moment of the strike on the tanker. The clip shows a large explosion on one end of the ship, and a dark cloud of smoke billowing up from the vessel. Pieces of debris can be seen crashing into the water surrounding the ship. Newsweek could not independently verify the footage.

"Thanks to the pilots for the successful combat work against the enemy control point!" Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk, the head of the Ukrainian Air Force, said in a statement. Newsweek has reached out to the Russian Defense Ministry for comment via email.

I do decide, labeling one side as “propaganda ” and therefore discounting or denying anything they say is equally dangerous

One example Denys is vilified by many here on FR, I watch his stuff seems pretty fair, shows Ukrainian loses as well as Russians, uses both pro Russian and pro Ukrainian maps and sources

Condemns or criticizes Ukrainian govt when he sees it.

Not my only source , but one

I do think Putin is evil, and I don’t buy the provoked stick, wonder do you buy putins Poland started WW2 by not accepting Germany’s “goodwill gesture “, giving dead Ukrainian soldiers watch to tucker.

I wonder if Putin was so worried about nato expansion ( congrats on Finland and Sweden) why didn’t he attack the baltics

My 2 cents

“I do decide, labeling one side as “propaganda ” and therefore discounting or denying anything they say is equally dangerous”

Exactly true!

Axiom: The antidote to the process of propaganda is the process of finding factual truth.

Factual truth is follows the evidence wherever it might lead. Anything counter-factual that obscures or distorts the truth is ‘anathema.’

Is it me, or is the Russia camp switching to denying any bad news for Russia by calling it "propaganda"?

This is kind of hard to deny.

Can’t wait for this filthy little fake President without an American empire invasion project to be over. Under little Biden, America has become a cancer.

And you are sadly supporting that cancer.

"I guess my question is what difference does it make, storm shadow took out submarine and other ships, would question the use of storm shadow at such a short distance to ukranian lines, for the same reason would think it pretty stupid to place a high value installation on that ship"

Agreed.
In post #3 our FRiend boycott was upset by the headline and said it should be changed to read:

boycott: "Headline should read ....
U̶k̶r̶a̶i̶n̶e̶ ̶ USA Missiles Blow Up Russia’s Floating ‘Command Center’: Video"
I was merely hoping to point out that they were not necessarily US made missiles.

Worldtraveler once upon a time: "I think you get it now.
On this thread alone, there are posted about SEVEN AND ONE HALF HOURS of monetized YouTube videos, from a Canadian resident and a young fellow in Birmingham, Alabama.
Both YouTube vloggers running "merch" operations, and one is even a financial advisor of sorts."

Seriously??

You're here to complain that YouTubers make money off their videos?
Do you think that, like you, they should only accept payments from a Ministry for Agitation and Propaganda?
Do you think that Free Republic should only allow links to demonetized YouTube videos?

Do you have a problem with others, i.e., legacy-media outlets, making money off their broadcasts?

Or are you only in the business of throwing pro-Russia cr*p against the wall to see whatever might stick?

“Is it me, or is the Russia camp switching to denying any bad news for Russia by calling it “propaganda”?”

Truth: proclaiming “propaganda” with subsequent false exaggerated posturing, accusations and name-calling directed toward any opposition becomes quite tedious.

Axiom: The antidote to the process of propaganda is the process of finding factual truth.

Factual truth is follows the evidence wherever it might lead. Anything counter-factual that obscures or distorts the truth is ‘anathema.’

The anti-support freedom for Ukraine group’ cannot even contemplate ponder, consider, or study any information not supportive of their mind-set. Their stance is total repudiation of what is factually true presented by article, video or both. There is zero tolerance for any alternate opinion undesirable of support of the invasion of Putin.

All should avoid the EVASION of our intellectual responsibility in support of our pursuit of knowledge.
This is vital to determine the difference between what “we want to believe to be true” and “what is true.”

I maintain each of us has freedom of thought and of expression. I am not here to dictate my point of view.
However, it is important all respect that we share mutual freedom of thought and of expression regardless of a differing viewpoint.

“And you make this seemingly absurd accusation based on what facts, exactly?”

Regularly posting links to a monetized YouTube channel is misusing this site. It is fact, not an absurd accusation. It’s not like most posters that post a link to a YouTube once in a while. It’s constant.

Seriously?!?! You watched seven and a half hours of YouTube videos?!?!
I have not "complained." That was your word. I identified some of the content creators from publicly available information.

I have not thrown "pro-Russia cr*p against the wall to see whatever might stick." Again, your words.

Your straw men burn brightly in your view, but from this vantage they barely can be lit.

Seriously?!?! You watched seven and a half hours of YouTube videos?!?!

Really?

Is this a "fact" you invented out of thin air, or is it written down somewhere?

If so, I've never seen it and never even conceived of it.

People post many links on Free Republic every day, and I've never seen any restrictions on them beyond the obvious, i.e., obscene pics.

But maybe you have special access to FR rules I don't know of?

“The biggest attack on Russian soil since the Second World War continues as waves of attack drones continue to fall on Russian oil refineries, military bases, and security services.

At least 60 drones were spotted over not less than seven Russian regions overnight on March 13, with at least seven more in a morning wave, Russia’s Defense Ministry announced.
A major oil refinery is ablaze in Ryazan, military bases were targeted in Voronezh, and an FSB building was damaged in Belgorod as multiple waves of drones continue to fall in regions across Russia.

A missile threat was also reported by the Governor of Kursk Oblast.

The waves of drones are a continuation of attacks on March 12 that saw Russia deal with at least 25 drones over nine regions that struck at least two oil facilities.

A Russian Air Force base in Buturlinovka and a military airfield in Voronezh were targeted in the mass wave of air strikes, an informed source told NV on March 13.

It is believed that the strike was organized by Ukraine’s security service with other representatives of the Defense Forces, the source told NV.

The consequences of the attack are still being clarified.
Part of the city of Voronezh was blocked, including the Southwest Market, after a drone attack, while another community in the region was left partly without electricity.
Some districts in Buturlinovka are experiencing power outages following a drone attack, local outlet ASTRA reported.

Major oil refineries in three Russian regions were the main targets of the overnight attack organized by the Ukraine, a source told NV.

“Our task is to deprive the enemy of resources,” he said.
Large oil refineries in Ryazan, Kstovo of Nizhy Novgorod Oblast, and Kirishi of Leningrad Oblast – all among Russia’s five largest – were targeted in the mass drone attack, he said.

The attacks are a continuation of a series of special operations against enemy refineries that the Ukrainian army had previously launched, the source said.

“We are systematically implementing a well-calculated strategy to reduce the economic potential of the Russian Federation,” the source added.

“Our task is to deprive the enemy of resources and reduce the flow of oil money and fuel that Russia directs straight to the war and the killing of our citizens.”

“This work will be continued,” pledged Andriy Yusov, a representative of Ukraine’s military intelligence.
