You’ll be washing in the river in no time.
99.1 WHFS best radio station/deejays ever. I used to tape them on cassette and replay over and over when away. Didn’t matter what song they were all awesome.
Yep, that’s how it seems to me. I will add that I’ve been in laundromats full of hispanics and I’ve never felt threatened or hated. The handful of times I’ve interacted with them they’ve been polite.
“I met a couple other divorced men who showed me how to ‘Jimmy’ the door lock so I could get in and do my laundry. One old guy said, “Hey, the cops come by, ya just tell ‘em, I’m doing my laundry WTF ?”
Sometimes there would be drunkin bums sleeping it off, curled up on the floor of the laundrmat. You just stepped over them...”
That sounds a lot more exciting than my laundromat experience days... but I’ll take the boring route every time, especially these days. Come to think of it, a lone female in an empty laundromat, especially in a not good part of town, would be an open invitation to disaster now.
“The evening ended, and a couple of weeks later we saw the guy’s picture in the paper. He’d been an escaped inmate. They said he’d been found when some folks saw his heavily tattooed arm sticking out of a garbage bag down by the river.”
Yikes. I don’t even want to think about how close I probably came to disaster in those younger, more liberal days. I usually had pretty good instincts about people and God was definitely looking out for me/us... since nothing bad ever happened.
This guy probably met with street justice. He’d have likely been better off staying in jail. He was pleasant enough. Didn’t want any trouble...at least not with two guys in their mid-20s and a Pitbull/shepherd mix.

Looking back... I have to wonder how many times my confident demeaner ... due to always carrying back then might... have saved me from being a victim.
I remember when there was a rash of muggings and purse-snatchings at Greenspoint Mall in Houston... and the cops advised women to be aware of their surroundings, no nose in the purse searching for keys, etc., and to not appear weak or clueless because the perps were looking for someone that looked easy to steal from or attack. It’s how you hold yourself that can determine if they pick you, IOW.
It’s amazing what having a concealed weapon can do for one’s attitude. I highly recommend that every woman carry these days. It really is a matter of life or death now.
Bingo!
We’re getting more of ‘em at my Laundromat in Pensacola, FL.
Can always do tequila, or for beer, Modelo, Pacifico, Sol, Victoria, Corona, etc.
“Can always do tequila, or for beer, Modelo, Pacifico, Sol, Victoria, Corona, etc.”
Nothing better on a hot summer day... than an ice cold Corona... in an iced-insulated mug straight from the freezer... with or without a slice of lime.
But I can’t do tequila any more. The times I’ve tried ... it did me, instead. I have a definitive weakness for frozen margaritas. Mom used to make the best on every holiday visit. Those were the days...
I did not know that about WHFS. Man, that was the station to listen to in the 70’s and early 80’s. They played albums and album cuts. The DJ - Weasel - was extremely knowledgable about rock and the artists. Sad to hear. Another part of my youth gone forever.
Actually I see that as a good thing. Because the Western man refuses to stand up to Islam. But Latin machismo might save us all. Unless you want America to be like Dearborn or Minneapolis.
Yeah, WHFS was great.
I remember calling in to WHFS very late one night in the 70’s and giving Weasel a boatload of crap for playing a long set of dark depressing songs. He loved to pick a theme and play long sets of it. I think he actually enjoyed our exchange, but after we hung up he played “Blue Birds Over the Mountain” by Ersel Hickey followed by a set of overly happy Beach Boy type songs.
A few years back I came across Weasel hosting a weekend program on public radio out of Baltimore. The knowledge of music and musicians he had was amazing.
Try coming down to South Alabama in Robertsdale…….

Shoot. Go to the Costco in Cary, NC (Raleigh) on a Saturday or Sunday. It’ll be packed and you’d think you were in a store somewhere overseas. Americans are outnumbered at least 30:1.
