What was she doing there, given that her claims that she met with people "across Cuban civil society" was laughable?
When someone comes to America, land of the free, as a refugee, presumably to escape some awful homeland, does it seem funny that such a person then jumps on a flight to Cuba to advocate for its superior model?
It does to me.
According to the Miami Herald:
A delegation of the U.S. Congressional Progressive Caucus traveled to Cuba last week in a trip that has not previously been disclosed by the legislators nor reported in Cuban state media. The group of about a dozen people was led by Democratic U.S. Reps. Pramila Jayapal of the state of Washington and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. It included a congressional staffer from the office of California Rep. Barbara Lee’s office, sources with knowledge of the trip told the Miami Herald. Jayapal and Omar, members of the informal left-wing group of lawmakers known as “the squad,” did not reply to emails and messages seeking comment. Lee’s office also did not reply to a request for comment.
After the Herald published this story, the Congressional Progressive Caucus, comprising more than 100 lawmakers and chaired by Jayapal, confirmed the trip. “Representatives Jayapal and Omar traveled to Cuba last week, where they met with people from across Cuban civil society and government officials to discuss human rights and the U.S.-Cuba bilateral relationship,” said a Caucus spokesperson. The secrecy is strange, here, given the brazenness with which Cuba supporters have shown for cutting sugar cane and praising socialism on their illegal trips to Cuba in the past. Cuba can get anything the civilized world produces through Mexico, and does, and gets oil for Communism directly through Maduro in Venezuela. What are these A@@clowns down in Cuba for— more dope money. Cause Cuba is still in that business as well. Raul Castro the paedo is still alive and still talking to obamaumao. I went to Cuba with a couple of friends when Fidel Castro was running the place. I read about a man online who “knew” Castro so we’d be OK there, sent him the $$ and away we went. Stayed at the best hotel in town and sometimes had running water. Great food though. A lot of Americans and Brits there. We were really disturbed about having such wonderful meals when Cubans were starving.
Cubans we met there told us how much they loved Castro. That was in public. In private they begged us to help them get to the US. Cuba was, of course, a total disaster. The people were quite likable.
As many people do when traveling to poor countries, we brought old but nice clothes with us and left them there. Hotel maids were delighted.
I hope we don’t become the poor country needing clothes from visitors from prosperous places.
Did they go to Cuba for a medical procedure. We are told their healthcare is superior to ours... /sarc

Ilhan Omar is not only a reprehensible person, she is dumb as a box of rocks and a devoted anti-Semite. And yet, she got elected to the US House of Representatives. It doesn't surprise me she went to Cuba and would extol the wonders of Cuban communism. I'm surprised her next stop is not Venezuela.

Sarcasm I know but.... But my ex's boss, an MD from Argentina and living and working in the US, when her son was diagnosed with a brain tumor, sent him for treatment in Cuba ... because of their superior health care system. He was dead within one year. Now I don't know the specifics of his case and maybe he was terminal anyway. But if he were my son there is no way in hell I would send him to Cuba for treatment.
Please stay there.
Had the story ended with “They all had one way tickets and vowed to never return to the exploitation and subjugation of persons of color in the United States.” then it would have been the happy side of the news for the day.
