“He’s a regular,” Gray said. “And, he said ‘I’m going to burn the place down,’ and then he attempted to burn the place down.” A man of his word. Respect.

I read that the name Lynrd Sknrd was a spoof of a HS teach named Leonard Skinner who told the boys in the band they would amount to nothing.

Homey joint.
The dude shows up at noon and by 4:00PM he's tuned up enough to try and burn the joint to the ground...but the case of beer and a handful of shooters had nothing to do with it:(
Who cares about this few cement blocks and a coupla of pool tables that probably has an outhouse?

Well, to be accurate, the bar wasn't named after the title of the song, "Gimme Three Steps." It was named after the name of the bar in the song lyrics:
I was cutting the rug down at a place called The Jug
With a girl named Linda Lou
When in walked a man with a gun in his hand
And he was looking for you-know-who...

That’s part of it. Skinner would harass them about having long hair etc.
A little trivia, before they called themselves Lynyrd Skynyrd, they were called “The One Percent” circa ‘69 or ‘70.
That was when my wife’s father and his partner recorded them in their local studio.....the 1st recording of Freebird was done at that time....before MCA discovered them.

Mr. Skinner was a crew-cut military veteran who tangled with these long-hairs in the mid-60s. Later on, they became good friends and it broke Mr. Skinner’s heart when they had that plane crash.

Ha!
Ed King left us in 2018 my friend......a very underrated and under appreciated member of the original group IMO.
He told stories of Ronnie being a mean drunk, verbally abused and physically acosted him regularly when under the influence.
