“sustained wage growth for lower-wage workers by skills development, increased productivity and higher service standards”

You mean...pay them more if they do a good job?

Maybe they need to pay dishwashers more also. I’m sick of being served meals on half-washed dishes.

And to think that I could have charged each of my three kids $580 each for the toilet cleaning course instead of ME paying THEM an allowance.

I bet not 1% of Americans clean a toilet as well as the Singaporeans do.

Yep.

And I have to say people have not been taught how to clean is a correct statement.

Cleaning a bathroom is not hard but there are certain things that need to be done. Especially if you are cleaning a community bathroom. Don't think the course should cost that much but a paid course to learn how to clean in general and how to clean professionally is undoubtedly needed.

I am a janitor and I started “learning on the job” without a formal training course but $$$ is on the table and government is in the picture.

I can’t laugh at this. worked at restaurants as a teen for spending cash and the VERY first thing learned was safe food handling and preparation practices. people die every day because some moron has NO CLUE about everything from safe food temps to how to properly wash their hands and sanitize utensils before serving food to an unsuspecting public. remember folks...there’s usually a sign in a restaurant restroom reminding employees to “wash your hand before returning to work” but the majority of these employees either ignore it or can’t read in the first place. eating out is a gamble at best and fatal are worst. just fyi

In many cases, they’re teaching very dumb immigrants, with very poor educations. Can’t run ‘em through a micro-biology course, but you can teach ‘em to handle food safely, and clean the snot out of stuff. Still, if they don’t know the “why,” there can be problems.

... but there's no hand-washing solution, and hasn't been for a month.

If I take out a student loan to pay for this course, will Traitor Joe "forgive" it?

PS: He could "forgive" my debt for a lifetime, but there is no way in hell I would EVER vote for that SOB!

I’m sure there are nuances that most people won’t think of. But teaching it doesn’t require anything more involved than a YouTube video. Not $560 of coursework. 20 people sitting in a classroom? The instructor gets $10k? Scam.

Speaking of which, what about on the job training? Why do you need a training course to get this job? You can’t apprentice with someone?

You can probably thank phosphate-free dish soap for that.

It’s nice to have a diploma on the wall and a lot of this training would carry over into the cleaning of urinals, skills to last a lifetime.

I did say I thought the course was overpriced.

You can learn a lot from YouTube but how much trust would you put in a new hire when you ask them "can you do this job" and they respond, "eh, I'll look it up on YouTube"?

In this way you know the person has been trained to clean. At least in theory. Reality might be quite a different thing.

As for on the job training few companies have either the time or inclination to do so. Mostly because, I spend my time training you to do the job properly and you quit and go to another company to use the skills I just taught you.

Some companies that do train are starting to say if you quit in less then six months to a year after your training is complete you will be billed.
