Canethia Miller, 27, splurged through $10K intended for impoverished mothers She shared how she put a majority of her program cash into a luxury Miami trip Other young moms said they put the windfall into paying down their debts

A Washington DC mom has shared how she splurged most of a $10,000 taxpayer-funded lump sum intended for impoverished mothers on a luxury holiday to Miami.

Canethia Miller, 27, was accepted onto a DC government pilot last year as she and he three children were struggling to make ends meet. The Strong Futures program is one of many across the US - but the only one to offer the cash as a $10,800 lump sum, rather than in 12 smaller monthly installments.

'I wanted to blow it. I wanted to have fun,' she said. The spending spree included 15 brand new outfits for her kids - one for each child for each day of the vacation - and a $180 haircut to make her not 'look like a working, stressed mom.'

Joined by her children's father, they splashed out on luxury amenities including steak dinners, new gadgets and toys for her kids, brand new outfits, and a boat tour past Miami's most expensive mansions.

Miller justified the extravagance by saying she hoped to inspire her children and teach them that if they work hard they too may be able to afford a Miami mansion.

Miller said she splashed through the entire $10,800 in a matter of months and struggled to keep $50 in her savings account.

The young mom shared her story as part of a profile into DC's 'Strong Families, Strong Futures' pilot program, showing how the no-strings-attached money helped various low-income mothers.

When reparations legislation passes congress, probably paid out in 100 Trillion Dollar Zimbabwe banknotes, invest in stocks of Afro-beauty products, cruise lines, fashion accessories, and high end auto dealers.

I can’t remember the original author, but long ago someone opined that if all the money on the planet were gathered up and exactly distributed equally to each individual, it would take about 5 years for everything to be back as it was before.

This is one example; but every cash handout and food handout and other welfare benefit works the same way. The wastrel *will* impoverish themself whether they have two dimes or win the lottery.

Not that people can’t better themselves, but a bucket of money is the worst way to try. Leftists know this though; they’re not stupid. It creates despondence, dependency, and enslavement to whomever can hand out the next bennie.

There was a time, in my lifetime, when welfare case workers visited the homes of recipients. If they had a radio, they were not eligible for benefits. Sell the radio and re-apply.

I have more or less said the same thing (about reparations) on this forum. Only the impoverishment that reparations will cause across the entire economy will last at least a generation, and when some recovery is made, there will be demands for a second round.

She just wanted the get away.

I have a close relative who was busted for dwi in college.

he went to court and was offered a week in jail or a ankle monitor for the week. he called me and asked for $400 the cover the cost of the ankle monitor. He had the money that pay for it himself but, if he paid for the ankle monitor, He wouldn't be able to go to Ft. Lauderdale for spring break.

its a mental block and why broke people stay broke. They get a dollar and instead of saving for the future they feel they deserve something nice.

Because I really need a break from my suck ass life.

You cant break the cycle of poverty by just giving people money.

P.S. I did not give him the $400 he needed to go on vacation and avoid jail

Ayn Rand predicted this. Government taking from those who can produce and giving it to favored classes.

The end result is producing people give up and society collapses.

Tell them to look up if they can claim the kids as their dependents on taxes. It's a misconception that only the custodial parent (usually the mother) can claim the kids, but that's not true. Usually it comes down to whichever parent is the biggest bread winner (with the idea that the state's calculation for child support is based on the largest income parent ponying up more cash to raise the kid). I could have claimed the kids on my taxes every year of their childhood, including the few years my ex-wife had custody before I won custody. It's a shame I didn't know it until the last year. So she was able to claim them for a couple of years due to my ignorance (only one parent can claim them).
