Andrey Morozov, a prominent pro-war Russian blogger, has reportedly died by suicide following outrage over a post in which he claimed that the Russian army lost 16,000 soldiers during the capture of the eastern Ukrainian city of Avdiivka.
Morozov, who went by the pseudonym Murz on Telegram, was an ultra-nationalist commentator who fought alongside Russian-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine in 2014 and participated in Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.
On Sunday, Morozov wrote to his 120,000 followers on Telegram that Russia lost 16,000 personnel and 300 pieces of armour during its months-long capture of Avdiivka. The post drew heavy criticism from senior Russian propagandists, who accused the blogger of “slandering the Russian defence ministry”.
In Morozov’s final messages on Tuesday morning, he announced his suicide and said he was pressured by his superiors to delete the post detailing the number of casualties in Avdiivka.

1. Article from a British paper; those have been among the worst/most laughable in their anti-Russian propaganda.
2. No mention of sources for his claim.
3. The anti-Russian Mediazona tries its best to track and hype Russian losses, but even doubling their numbers on the assumption that they only identify half the losses still leaves them with very low casualty counts compared to Ukrainian losses.
4. Which makes sense with all we hear about the Russian artillery advantage and Ukrainians running out of equipment; Lanchesters’ Square Law strongly suggests it is the outnumbered Ukrainians who are being mauled at a very lopsided casualty rate.
5. The best analysis of losses in the battle for Bakhmut (from Big Serge) yielded ~50K losses for Ukraine, 5K Russian military and 17-22K Wagner troops, IIRC. As he said, Ukraine lost its army there, Russia lost its prison population. Given the collapse of Ukrainian defenses at the end and the devastating impact of glide bombs mentioned widely by Ukrainian survivors, I would expect at least as lopsided a ratio in Avdeyevka.

Well, genetically that's not true; they're mostly eastern slavic. But their thinking was most definitely molded to the Mongol traditions, and they do still think much as they did 500 years ago. While there is little doubt of Asiatic influences here and there, The “Rus” are believed to be more closely related to peoples from Scandinavia.
