I would guess that over the past 40 years, birds cause more damage to airplanes in the air than anything else, particularly when they hit the engines.

Bird strikes are the major cause of radome damage on the B-52. Over the years, OK-ALC had to repair the existing radomes so many times they had to embark on a replacement radome production effort.
