It wasn’t her sandwich.
Period.
I’ve been in leadership positions of various types over the years and in several industries.
Little things, unchecked, escalate to big things.
You want the sandwich? Ask. Someone probably would have given it to her.
But don’t take it. That’s a mindset I don’t want on my team.
I would have fired her, too.
Maybe she did ask, but the wrong person gave her permission?
Trays of food left over from a lunch are intended to be eaten by whoever is willing to take the risk of leftover food. Pathetic in my opinion. I run teams of 100s of engineers. Some of them will eat a pizza that has been out for 6+ hours.
I ran many meetings from a few to 30 people in our corporate offices to large conferences with 1,000 attendees. We always had huge amounts of food left over and we never cared what happened to it. It was going stale, anyway. Te caterers took care of the leftovers.
This is petty beyond belief! A stale half sandwich that the health department says must be thrown away anyway and they FIRE her?
I’d say something else is going on. They want to downsize without paying RIF costs.
