Brockton High School in Brockton, Massachusetts, is the largest public school in the state, boasting a total of over 3,500 students. However, it also boasts an apparent problem with student violence that has become so severe that four members of the Brockton School Committee sent a letter to their mayor asking for the National Guard to be called in to restore order at the school.
The letter was sent last Thursday to Mayor Robert F. Sullivan. The letter claims that "our high school has experienced a disturbing increase in incidents related to violence, security concerns, and substance abuse" in recent months and blames, in part, a lack of adequate staffing. In a public school meeting last month, many teachers from Brockton High reportedly broke down in tears about the level of school violence. A number of stabbing incidents have also taken place recently at the school.
The letter claims that staffing shortages have led to numerous incidents in which trespassers were found wandering on school grounds without authorization, leading to concerns about the security of the facility in addition to the issues with violence.
For his part, Mayor Sullivan promised to forward the request on to Massashusetts Governor Maura Healey (D) but noted that he does not agree with calling up the National Guard at the school.
Healey responded to the letter in a statement last Friday, saying, "Our administration is committed to ensuring that schools are safe and supportive environments. ... We are aware of concerns raised about Brockton High School and are in touch with local officials."
The Massachusetts National Guard was activated in 2021 by then-governor Charlie Baker (R) in order to address bus driver shortages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Massachusetts has seen an increase in overall school violence lately, with a number of incidents that have gone viral on social media, including a lunchtime altercation at Haverhill High School in early February that attracted significant attention.
Close the non-functional schools.
Close the non-functional schools.
End mandatory education. Allow anyone to drop out at the end of 6th grade.
Beyond the 6th grade it becomes a privilege. Obey the rules and you can stay, break the rules and you are gone.
Must be all those White Supremacists in black face again...
I once found a chart listing levels of government in five sections, with a little artwork.
level 1 0% government Anarchy. Everything allowed.
level 3 was around 50/50 government some freedom some law enfored. Some type of balance like we hope for our republic.
level 5 was 100% government. Like China. Freedom limited to what ever big brother approves.
I forget the other two levels but they show the graduate examples that exist around the world.
Would someone send a link to one of these. I’m sure there are some variations.
BTW Marvin Haggler was from Brockton.
So was Rocky Marciano.
I lived down the street from this HS. And, 20 years ago I would see the HS kids walking home in front of my house. It was bad even then. Glad I went South...
BTW Marvin Haggler was from Brockton.
As was Rocky Marciano.
Hagler. Originally from Newark or Jersey City, but came up under the trainer Goody Petronelli in Brockton. Goody Petronelli was a friend of Rocky Marciano. Hagler and Petronelli’s nephew, Tony Petronelli were rising together, but Tony Petronelli peaked after losing a welterweight title fight to Wilfred Benitez in the mid 70s, while Hagler went all the way to the big time.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
They need parent volunteers in the hallways.
The left thinks the National Guard is their private police.
“End mandatory education. Allow anyone to drop out at the end of 6th grade.

A good idea.
An educated citizenry is a very good thing.
But after Readin’, Writin’, and ‘Rithmetic it’s up to to the student.
Trade School for some is a much better idea. Military for some is a good choice. Family business, or self employment of other kinds is better too.
Once they grow up a bit, then further education for those capable and motivated Adults would be a much better option.
Prison for some that need it is also a good thing.
The UK has a cut off age of 16. Not everyone can go to college. At 16 they are tested and those that have the ability continue with school and are tested again before being allowed to enroll.
We need to end this idea that everyone should go to college.
We need to bring back apprentice programs where young people can learn a trade by doing the work.
We need to drop the minimum wage back to a reasonable level (if it was up to me I would end all minimum wage and let the market determine the wage).
I write about Brockton a lot—often when folks want to compare the US with Russia.
Brockton has been a snakepit for decades—and truly must be seen to be believed.
A side trip to Lawrence is also recommended for the folks who want to hate on Russia.
We have some stunning mind-blowing ghettos in this country.
They are a testament to blatantly corrupt and failed political leadership by the Democratic Party.
They can’t blame Putin for it.
As was Rocky Marciano.
The only undefeated Heavy Weight.
BTW, I married my 2nd wife in Brockton. The Justice of the Peace had numerous photos behind his desk of Marciano.
Marvelous Marvin Hagler once went door-to-door in Brockton selling insurance to my ex-boss.
He declined...
“Close the non-functional schools.”
Nah. Turn them into enclosed Day Camps.
Teach the value of education. That’s what they’re missing.
Those that can’t study will work. One or the other, 6-days a week.
Many decades ago I worked for the cable television company that had the service in Brockton.
Everything got stolen—by employees, customers, outsiders.
Sometimes they made managers from the Northeast visit the office to help local managers deal with issues.
Everybody dreaded the trip—parts of the city looked like scenes from World War II Europe.
We had Lawrence too—the prostitutes offered their services five feet from the office front door.
If we were alone with the local managers we always had just one piece of advice.
Quit.
Now.
Lol.
I was in a bar with my buddies once when Marvin Haggler showed up.
After a while he grabbed my buddies GF and gave her a big kiss.
Of course we did nothing about it..
Works for me.
