"“There was water being pumped from an irrigation well at (the Bill King Ranch) and transported four miles away to a construction site without a valid permit,” State Engineer Mike Hamman said. “They did not come in and properly permit the transfer of that water for that purpose and place of use,” Hamman said."

NM is wagging its finger vigorously at Bill King, son of former democrat governor Bruce King.

During Governor Bruce King’s third term in office (January 1, 1991 – January 1, 1995), brothers Bill (L) and Gary (R) served as advisors in their father’s administration. Due to a concern for the underground water supply in central New Mexico, water usage is regulated by the State Engineer. Anyone drilling a well must have a permit. For example, well #E-5495 is an irrigation well owned by the Bill King Ranch, a sizable Santa Fe County farm and ranch operation. If the King name sounds familiar, that’s because Bill is the son of former three-term governor Bruce King. “My father and my grandfather started (the ranch) in 1917, and we’ve been farming and ranching here ever since. So, it’s been about 106 years,” Bill King said.

Why I declined to move to Idaho when I retired. Around here (SE Ohio) water is a damned nuisance that we pay good money to get rid of so our crops don’t get waterlogged.

More attempts to put roadblocks in the way of oil and gas development. There are acres upon acres of undeveloped Permian in New Mexico. I am sure the D’s in power are trying to figure out any way possible to keep it in the ground.

No water, no fracs.
