Former Republican Governor Larry Hogan announced he will run for Maryland’s open US Senate seat, giving the GOP a strong candidate in a state the party hasn’t carried in a Senate election for decades.

Good point. We have binary choices in elections.
I know Larry Hogan is too liberal, for us conservatives here on Free Republic. But what real Choice do Maryland Freepers have, given the choice if Hogan vs. Some radical Liberal Democrat?
If I still lived in Maryland, I would vote for him, reluctantly.
He got elected primarily because the corrupt Dems in MD screwed things up so badly, similar to when Bob Ehrlich got voted in as Governor in 2002. From where things stand now I don’t think Hogan has much of a chance but as 2024 has unfolded so far you never know what might pop up.
Squish RINOs from red states are infuriating and I despise them.
However, in states like Maryland where your likely winner would be a Marxist, I’ll take someone who will at least nominally count toward a majority and vote correctly 50% of the time.
A Mitt Romney in solid red Utah is a disaster. But if you could replace blue-state cretins like Patty Murray, Mazie Hirono or Cory Booker with Mitt, it would still be an improvement, given that a MAGA candidate has no hope of being elected in certain areas of the country.

I respectfully disagree. I would vote for a real Republican over Hogan in the primary. But in the general election ANY Republican is better than ANY Democrat.
I will take him in a heartbeat if it helps the Republicans take back the senate. He will definitely vote the wrong way a lot of times, but a (D) will vote the wrong way ALL the time.
I would love it if we could afford to be purists in Maryland, but we can’t.
His MO is to “fight” conservatives. We don’t need that within the caucus. Susan Collins is not a conservative but she also doesn’t “fight” conservatives and make herself the center of attention to attack and totally undermine her own party. If Hogan went there and was just philosophically more to the left, from a far-left state, that would be one thing. But he would be intentionally trying to sabotage the party at every turn and in the media. So I don’t see him getting elected as beneficial.
As I recall he voted to impeach as well
Your reasoning is precisely WHY our country is in the mess we have now, once this bastard RINO is in he is there for life betraying us all the way!! I will NEVER vote that way again a RINO is no different than a Dem!!
lol and not have they been great. Just kidding(mostly), he did vote for judges, but other than that he has not been supportive of Trump and didn’t he recently say he won’t vote for Trump.
If you keep thinking that way, nothing will ever change.
True. But impeachment is worthless.
So what should I do? Vote for the Democrat to keep a RINO out? I believe it’ll be a close race, and if it’s more important to keep a RINO out than it is to keep a Democrat out, it seems to me that you’re suggesting that I vote for the Democrat.
BTW, my heart is with you, but my brain says otherwise at this point time and in these concrete circumstances. I’m open to your thoughts and opinions, but really, I’m gonna find it impossible to vote for the Democrat, or refrain from voting in the race, or throwing my vote away on a third party candidate or write-in.
I said FOR NOW!!! Take an INCH when you can instead of a YARD BACK!! COME ON!
It was, so why did he do it?
Mittens was a rino snake, what was the point of his vote?
If there is a 50-50 Senate we can expect Hogan to switch parties officially. But his election will help us get closer to 51.
At what cost?
*His MO is to “fight” conservatives. We don’t need that within the caucus.* Let Trump deal with it.
*I don’t see him getting elected as beneficial.* You are misguided-think committee chairmanships. Think getting to 55 seats. We’ll need him.
*If there is a 50-50 Senate we can expect Hogan to switch parties officially. But his election will help us get closer to 51.*
Still you go for it anyway.
