I do recall my father would buy a 5 pound box of shrimp once or twice during Lent. It was a rare treat. Like I said it was usually fish sticks.

Catholics didn’t eat meat on Fridays for generations

I was one of those weird kids in high school that actually looked forward to fish stick Fridays. I thought the people that actually looked forward to that crappy Pizza on Fridays were weird.
Nothing better than a fish stick with a little ketchup... of course nowadays I like the tartar sauce. You got to remember back then the fish sticks were actually Cod. That went away after we got too good at catching Cod and now the great Cod Fisheries are gradually making a come back. Which is good news! Canada noticed their Cod fishery was waning 25 or so years before we did, and they put a stop to catching Cod up there and now that Cod Fishery is back almost in full swing.
Sometimes you got to hang up the hook. Won’t be long and the Big Tuna fishery in St. Edwards is going to be shut off for a decade or so. Even the commercial fisherman up that way think we should hang up the hook or should have five or seven years ago things are getting kind of critical with the big Tuna. The older tuna, the big ones they’re the procreators and they’re also in high demand over in Japan and they’re buying up every scrap of it they can lay their hands on. Bastards!
if God wants to keep me out of heaven because i ate meat on friday, He really didn’t want me there for other reasons...

I dunno, leftist probably tastes like greasy varmit meat. Heck, there’s a lot of them feral Hogs down south and around Mid-Atlantic - start taking them things out in earnest and probably feed half the world.

There’s a story that a McDonald’s franchise owner was having trouble selling enough burgers on Fridays; and that’s how the McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish sandwich was invented.
I’ve always liked it; but it seems to me it used to be better than it is now.
And prices would have to come down, one would think.

Plenty of days we have a pasta or rice dish with beans or something like that. Maybe some fish.

Do/Did Catholics eat only fish throughout Lent? I thought it was just certain days (including the usual Friday).
For us it was salmon patties or oyster soup.
Since Socialism, real Socialism is Force— one must then ask, how would this restriction of an individual’s diet be monitored or rather..... enforced?

For us, growing up, it was only on Friday’s during Lent. I always wondered where that was at in the Scriptures.
It was year round.
