Non-stop rainfall causes over 8M gallons of raw sewage to spill onto LA streets, beaches (what's with California and poop?)

Non-stop pounding rain from a “Pineapple Express” storm caused a massive sewage spill into Los Angeles County streets and beaches, with health officials warning residents to stay away from coastal waters.

About eight million gallons of raw sewage spilled into the Dominguez Channel — a nearly 16-mile river that runs through Carson, Calif.— which originated from two sewer locations, sanitation officials said.

I think everyone was hoping the rain would wash away the poop in the streets. Who would have thunk this would happen instead. Like the reverse or something. More poop on the streets!

Could be worse at least they have dedicated sanitary sewerage lines on the East Coast the system goes back well over 100 years and are combined so every time a rain event exceeds a certain inch per hour the bypass gates open up and dump the combined flows directly into the rivers by design. Looks like they have an inflow problem due to decaying infrastructure allowing rain water to inflow into the sealed sanitary system. They should find the subsurface breaks and seal them problem solved. The older Eastern cities would need to dig whole new systems into the ground which is $$$$ like billions hundreds of billions. It’s the same reason they want to end natural gas they say it is due to climate nope on the East Coast the gas grid is so old it leaks half or more of the gas out before it ever gets to the end point it is simply too expensive to dig up the lines and replace them. So climate is the excuse to sunset that infrastructure rather than bankrupt the gas distribution companies or have to raise rates so high to cover the complete rebuild the ratepayers would riot over it. Sunset is the only option then.

Any wastewater treatment system that receives too much infiltration from heavy rains will do the same thing. When inflow exceeds design capacity, this will happen.
