Gotta love those lines.
***like this or Monty Python’s Life of Brian***
OH! Stan wants to become a woman named Loretta and have babies! Smelling salts FAST!
Paraphrasing....
And your qualifications sir?
Murder, rape, bank robbery, horse thieving, general mayhem and rape.
You said rape twice!
I like rape!
Ok. Good man. Your hired.
“...quote you Byron and Shelley then jump on your belly and bust your balloon”.
That one never got clipped out for TV. Did they just not get it?
I wonder if they put a trigger warning for movies like THE EMPEROR JONES(1933).
I first saw WONDER BAR(1934) where Al Jolson goes to heaven in black face and wins all the medals from the Emperor Jones in a dice game. I decided to look for Emperor Jones to get background on that skit.
“Sorry about the ‘Up Yours N____’”
Pre PC movie days could never be released now days.
I saw it when I was around 12. Not sure exactly but it was sometime in the GWB years. Needed a lot of help from the folks, with the cultural references. In all I didn’t find it a classic of American comedy.
Yet I enjoyed Mad Mad World and the various Leslie Nielsen comedies (again with boomer interpreters on hand).
Since then I’ve seen Mel Brooks’ other achievements. I guess I just don’t get Mel Brooks. Didn’t care for YF at all. :(
There’s one reference I still don’t get.
When Harvey Korman says, “Ah yes, the Doctor Gillespie Killings.”
No clue.
Don’t ask me. I think Gillespie was the name of Dr. Kildare’s mentor but don’t quote me. :)
What in the wide world of sports is going on here?
What in the wide world of sports is a goin on here.
There, fixed it, to the best of my memory. Slim is at rest now.
“Please baby, I am not from Havana.”
You provincial putz!
“Hast du gesehen in deine Leben? Dey darker den us....WOOF!”
Oh, blow it out your ***, Howard ...
Isn’t it funny how what was hilarious and completely insane satire in our childhoods is now considered reality by some?
The reality of course is that its still completely insane.
Great line!
