It’s no secret that a Land Rover is a POS. It has terrible reliability, repairs cost a fortune and plus they have no resale value. Really, “worked hard their whole lives for” what? A car! They had more money than brains, until they bought a Land Rover.

At the end of the article are suggested measures to keep from having your vehicle stolen. They’re pretty funny. #1 is store your key fob in a Faraday bag. Think about that.

It’s an issue over here, too: https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2023/04/04/car-insurance-is-next-inflation-victim-as-range-rovers-hyundais-stolen/story.html

And it probably in large part went the other way around with Lizzy: RR was a premium car there that fit sporty estates.

The cliche used to be poor blacks, especially, going for flashy Caddys they couldn’t afford to try to mask their personal poverty. This story is about a couple who can’t afford a high car insurance, after streching to own a car out of their practical range.

That’s a real issue. There are hacks that allow thieves to start your car using a computer plus a largish antenna. Here, this isn’t exactly what I’ve seen on a YouTube vid, but it’s using the same methods.

Just a Pair of These $11 Radio Gadgets Can Steal a Car
A technique that allows thieves to silently unlock and drive away cars is getting cheaper and easier than ever.

And Amazon is selling a whole lot of them.

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=key+fob+faraday+bag

The top three results totaled together had sales of over 3500 items last month.

It’s not a Toyota Land Rover, It’s a Range Rover.

Bought more vehicle than they can afford.

You can take that view but may I suggest that getting caught blindsided by an annual cost of this amount does not constitute part of the ‘what you can afford’ thinking.

What I want to know is what the car manufacturers are doing about it....who would buy these cars? By the way i have had these discussions with car dealers where I live. I have a few vehicles....all at least a decade old. Insurance and tbeft is one reason I haven’t bought a new vehicle. It’s a separate issue but I also want the option to disconnect all the surveillance stuff they install these days before i buy a new vehicle.....and I’m prepared to wait.

Less expensive, might be worth having:

https://gpsandtrack.com/car_tracker/

$119 which includes 2 years of service. After 2 years, it’s $25/year for unlimited tracking service.

No Monthly Fees – No Contracts
Unlimited Locates – Locate Car Any Time
Start Disable – Hardwired Only
Anti Theft Device
Tamper Alert
Backup Battery
Tow Alert
Easy Install – Prewired OBDII Harness Available

I found this looking for a GPS tracker for my mom’s car. We are moving & she is 90, very confused about the unfamiliar roads and I want to be able to find her if she gets lost.

It’s “Toyota Land Cruiser”:

https://www.toyota.com/upcoming-vehicles/landcruiser/

“Jaguar Land Rover Automotive PLC (Land Rover) makes the “Range Rover”:

https://www.landrover.com/index.html

“Jaguar Land Rover” is owned by “Tata Motors” (India).

Notably, the article did not recommend getting armed and learning to shoot as an anti-theft strategy

In Britain!!! You don’t know the law in Britain. It is almost a crime to own a gun let alone use it to defend yourself or your property.

Boris Johnson needs transport for his British Expedition to Ukraine so he can have his war with Russia.

Have you seen Boris Johnson in the video being played in the UK, “Reporting for Duty” and talking about the wonderful lifestyle in the military and the need for entire population of England to go on a war footing to fight Russia?

I got a Series III Land Rover in 1972. That was a real Land Rover. Took it all around the back woods of Maine, NH, the Maritime Provinces and once across the country. Every panel was dented and I used the winch fairly frequently.

>Soon to come to a brand near you.<

It’s already here. Insurers, at least in the Houston area, are refusing to insure certain models of Hyundai and Kia because of theft. Those that do are jacking up the rates.

QE2 favorite car she drove herself was a lowly Jaguar X-type Estate. Prince Phillip favored a somewhat entry level Land Rover. Of course, they also had several top of the line Range Rovers. The vehicles come up for sale sometimes.

I’ve lusted after a Unimog for years.

Then buy one!

See George Bull, search by his name and Unimog.

I was his first customer with our 404 and almost 10 years ago got our U1300L and a Zeppelin NATO radio shelter from him.

Bear in mind when used on tarmac a lot the front tires wear due to the camber so you have to rotate tires a lot.

At the moment they are $690 each from Expedition Imports.

Yup. In Britain, anything worse than harsh language directed at a criminal risks prosecution of the victim.
