PS The fact that the perp is dead does not provide any aid and comfort to Mrs. Gill and their children. RIP Mr. Gill.

Report said mental health was a factor.

Funny how hate is never mentioned as a factor anymore in such crimes.

Report said mental health was a factor.

There was another Trump admin type that was attacked a little while back. The same (or similar) excuse was given for that attack, as well. These attacks aren't happenstance.

That wouldn’t surprise me at this point, I’m sad to say.

Democrats cleared the psych centers of violent people. Then they ended up in the prison system. Now they don't lock them up at all.

"Will the bastards in MD railroad these officers like Chauvin?"

They've put targets on the back of those two police officers, simply by releasing their names.

I worked in uniform for 25 years in NY State's prison system. I read about Schwalb's comment yesterday, and commented on it, on the thread about him. During my career, Gov. Mario Cuomo closed a good number of psych centers, tossing the residents onto the street. It wasn't long before they started showing up in the prison system, and in the mid-80's the State ended up building a crapload of prison to accommodate the upswing in crime. Andrew Cuomo closed more psych centers during his first term as Governor.

Cuomo and Hochul closed Oneida C.F., shortly after they got in office. The facility is about a 10 minute drive from me. It had originally been a State School for the Retarded, and was one of the facilities that was renovated, and turned into a maximum prison in the mid 80's by Mario Cuomo. Now it sits there empty.

In 2022, they closed six prisons in the State. Now Hochul wants to close five more this year.

Hochul also released thousands of prisoners during Covid, who never had to complete their court-ordered sentences. They like to claim that crime is down, but the only reason it's down is because they are cooking the books. If a perp is arrested, and he ends up not being charged, or the charges are dropped/dismissed, I'm betting they aren't even counting those arrests in the crime statistics. They are also reducing felony charges down to misdemeanors, and misdemeanors rarely end up going to jail, instead their sentences are dropped/dismissed, or serve their sentences at home with an ankle monitor. Thus they can say that crime is down. In NY State only those sentenced to over a year go to a State prison. And then of course there is the plea deals down to a lesser charge. In NY State today, nobody does the time for the actual crime they committed. If they were required to charge them according to the actual crime, they'd have to build more prisons, and in NY State, they can't even get anyone to take the test to become correctional officers anymore, and there are shortages of civilian staff to conduct the prison programs. It's a cluster f*ck, and I'm glad I retired when I had the chance. Been out of prison 20 years now. We always said we were doing time like the inmates, just doing it 8 hours a day for 25 years.

DC, of course, is not a state. But many (I’d guess most) Blue States actually have lower crime rates than Red States, which tend to have more challenging demographics.

Most cities are blue (also largely based on demographics); and in all states, they tend to be where the crime is worst.

For example, blue New England and the wider Northeast are on the whole much safer than the red Southeast.

I wonder what their end game is. I mean are they not the slightest bit worried?

There are only so many gated communities with security.

D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb told Maryland residents who were demanding accountability for the rising juvenile crime rates that the district cannot “prosecute or arrest our way” out of the crime epidemic.

Paul Kersey agrees!

Has the Judge released the perp without bail yet?

Thanks for the insiders view and experience, Mass. that comports with everything this citizen observes across the nation. It all started when the psych wards and hospitals for the insane closed. It was supposed to be for humanitarian reasons because involuntary commitment was wrong and the in,ages were treated poorly. There is no doubt there was horrible treatment and abuse, but was it worse than what the homeless experience on the streets? No. At least in the psych hospitals people had a roof over their heads, got meds, had a bed, got food, and (hopefully) did not, have access to illicit drugs. Closing the mental hospitals was a national disaster.

I’m surprised that there is zero discussion of restoring what we had. In California, we lived very close to the Agnes’s mental hospital. It was built in the 890s or 1900 era. I’ve read lots of anguished family stories about people not knowing what to do with their ill relatives when the hospital closed and the inmates released.

Then there is the erased border and firehouse of fentanyl flowing into the country and the Mexican gang crime explosion. The amount of gang graffiti along I-90 around Spokane, WA has exploded 100X in a few short years coinciding with Biden eliminating the border.

I also thought the AG put a target on the backs of those officers by releasing their names. That was an evil thing to do.
