You must be pushing 100. Well done!
You must be pushing 100. Well done!
You clearly have no idea how business functions.
Businesses take risks in exchange for the opportunity for profit. The owners or shareholders of that business assume the capital risk; if their product and/or its marketing are unsuccessful they lose that capital investment, and the company fails. When the company fails, its employees lose their jobs and its owners/shareholders lose their investment.
You don’t sound as if you’ve ever invested capital in anything, as you clearly do not understand what role capital plays in business.
‘(Capt. Tugg?)’
right you are...I never watched him, though...
LBJ's Great Society, 1964. In his usual vulgar manner he said he'd have them all voting Democrat.
There is a Robert Hall in Winston-Salem, NC.
“In his usual vulgar manner he said he’d have them all voting Democrat.”
For 200 years.
In other words, it's a 2 way street.
But why won't you answer my question as to what suddenly made American companies begin to have financial issues beginning in the 60s, are you afraid to answer it or do you just not know, bright guy?
You got it!! And blacks fell for it, hook, line, and sinker. Silly fools, they willingly went back to the plantation.
I remember Tom Mc An and Kinneys. In the 70s I noticed they had plastic and fake leather parts and the glue on the insole of my sandals would get loose in the summer heat. I was not impressed. I started to earn my own money and started to pay attention to what my shoes were made of.
On the upside, having a guy get the shoes for you and help you get your size correct was helpful. I am just realizing that my two kids have never had that kind of assistance, as they are GenZ.
When possible, go with actual leather, American made.
LBJ was certainly a piece of work
Sure makes me wonder about some of the conspiracy theories
Woolworth is doing quite well in Australia. It’s known as “Woolies” and owns most of the grocery stores in New South Wales and Queensland.
[I remember getting them in the 1930s...]
WOW
Nice try, kid.
Companies get perks because government needs them to stay in business or wants them in certain districts. Companies may or may nor accept the offers; the decision is up to the company as to whether or not the “perks” will benefit the company’s bottom line. Local governments offer tax breaks for companies to move operations to their areas, as that would provide jobs for the locals. The companies don’t have to move (which can be a hell of an expense and business interruption); so the return must be worthwhile to the owners/shareholders. Likewise, if a business has to operate under unfavorable government conditions it can relocate to a more favorable environment. It’s all done to benefit a company’s bottom line. Like it or not, employees are expendable. All a company owes its employees is a fair wage for good work. Beyond that, a company doesn’t OWE its employees anything. It can offer benefits (medical insurance, pensions, etc.) but it has no obligation to do so.
If you want to be “taken care of,” from cradle to the grave, you’ll probably feel right at home in some communist country. So, get your sorry as over to Cuba or China or
— that bastion of a worker’s paradise — North Korea. And stop your bitching.
No that was before my time.

Mad Magazine had Warren Beatty in “They came to rob Thom McAn’s]
Boy, that was a LONG time ago - I forgot about it until I saw the name again
There was a free-standing Thom McCann store two blocks from my house.
