I bet his future lies beyond the yellow brick road.

I think a pair sold at auction for $12,000 in the 70s.

Imbecile. Why the hell would MGM put actual rubies on the shoes?
To: montag813
I think the idea that the shoes had real rubys is one of those legends of folklore that’s been passed down for generations.
Heck, if memory serves I believe I may have even heard it myself.

Yeah, but they only take her to Kansas.
it is not clear where the shoes would take someone who wasn’t from Kansas. I am not sure why the Wicked Witch would want such a pair of shoes. Even so, a petite female DB Cooper could have had an easy time of it. Or you could make a ton of money making bets or putting on David Copperfield type performances, and stumping Penn and Teller.

From Dorothy's Ruby Slippers | Smithsonian Institution:
In the original book by L. Frank Baum, Dorothy's magic slippers are silver; for the Technicolor movie, costumers created ruby red shoes to show up more vividly against the yellow-brick road.

The “ruby slippers” I saw in the Museum of American History of the Smithsonian in DC were adorned with sequins. Such a maroon!

True story. The midget who hung himself after the Tin Man scene, who you can see swinging in the background, was wearing one of the pairs of ruby slippers. He was protesting the treatment of Frank Baum’s story, especially the whole brainless farmers thing.
