I have read that book at least 4 times. I think the book is about the deeper evils which use the human desire to create heaven(utopia) on earth as an avenue to allow the deeper evils destroy all of us. All the while letting the duped utopians feel good about the horrors they are unleashing.
It is an allegory about the battle between Satan and the Church of Christ on this earth. Tremendously inciteful.
The character of The Director is spot on. Mark Studdock has ambition to succeed enough so to acquiesce to the evil machinations of the N.I.C.E.
Dr. Filostrato is a fully accomplished sadistic mad scientist with an anti-life agenda posing as a progressive life enhancing ideologue. The Macrobes are terrifying. The whole trilogy needs to be made into a motion picture series by a producer not willing to sacrifice the message to market pressures and current sociological error.

Also prescient was Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451. He not only predicted censorship to protect people from being offended, but that it would arise through democratic means. And he predicted fake reality TV shows, and some other things.

And Huxley's Brave New World foresaw the destruction of the family unit, attempts to remake human biology, free love, mass drug use, and euthanasia.

When I was in high school, in the early ‘60s Orwell’s
‘1984’ and its companion ‘Animal Farm’ were required reading in order to illustrate the perils of Collectivism.

It appears now that they’re still important, though now as the blueprint for Collectivism.

Available for free download under Canada's slightly less insane copyright laws here: That Hideous Strength. A modern fairy-tale for grown-ups. (1945) [The final of the three stories in Lewis's science fiction trilogy. The story which began on Mars and was continued on Venus comes to its conclusion on Earth.]

All 3 books are available Here

Lewis told his biographer he considered his best book to be Perelandra but his favorite book to be That Hideous Strength.

I read the trilogy when I was a kid - didn’t understand it so didn’t like it and never tried to read it again. I need to rethink that and give it a new shot.
