Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York will campaign with former President Donald Trump in New Hampshire on Friday night at a campaign rally in Concord, a source tells CBS News. Soon afterward, Stefanik tweeted about her plans.

This is the first time Stefanik – who is also the House GOP chairwoman – will join Trump as he tries to win the New Hampshire primary. Her appearance also comes at a time where she is rumored to be among the potential picks to be Trump's running mate.(snip)

This is the first time Stefanik – who is also the House GOP chairwoman – will join Trump as he tries to win the New Hampshire primary. Her appearance also comes at a time where she is rumored to be among the potential picks to be Trump's running mate.

Stefanik was among the first members of Congress to endorse Trump in the presidential primary season in November 2022, when he announced his third bid for the White House. She's viewed as a loyal ally to Trump, according to sources.

Recently, Stefanik called on former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to drop out of the presidential race and back Trump.

"I am calling on every other candidate — all of whom have no chance to win — to drop out, so we can unify and immediately rally behind President Trump so that we can focus 100% of our resources on defeating Joe Biden to Save America," she wrote in a statement.

Last December, Stefanik won rare bipartisan praise for questioning top university presidents about why administrators hadn't yet punished students or eliminated student groups using hateful and violent language against Jews.

“She’s not the right person. Trump will be a one-term President, and he needs to pick the perfect VP so the electorate will know exactly who will succeed him. “

Byron Donalds is my choice.

I think it couod be DeSantis or Richard Grinnell. Ron should have been candidate in 2028, and Richard has no interest in being President and wouldn’t get elected anyway but is a loyal supporter and pitbull

Sorry, Donalds is from Florida. I believe the US Constitution states that the POTUS/VP have to be from different states.

I like Donalds too. Unfortunately I do not believe anyone else from Florida(Geatz) can be Trump’s running mate.

Exactly! I will never forget how she looked up from her notes and told the Harvard president,” And that’s exactly why you need to resign immediately.” She has what it takes and she’s savy enough to stay in Trump’s favor for 4 years. Yep, she’s my pick. He doesn’t get along well with others sometimes.

Sorry, Donalds is from Florida. I believe the US Constitution states that the POTUS/VP have to be from different states.

That is not in the constitution, it has been an unwritten rule that has been followed, but the courts have never even been asked to rule on it. The truth is that claim is a fabricated lie to keep potential nominees from choosing VPs from the same state.

In truth, in the past it has been a smart move to pick a VP from a part of the country one needs to build support from, Thus Kennedy chose Johnson to win Texas, and Reagan chose Bush to shore up the base by picking his closest challenger in the primary. However that reasoning is no longer a viable reason to use in choosing a VP.

The Constitution says that the Presidential electors cannot vote for two people from their own state. That’s why Dick Cheney changed his registration to Wyoming after he became GWB’s running mate. Trump could deal with it by making one of his other residences his official residence.

Trump will be a one-term President, and he needs to pick the perfect VP so the electorate will know exactly who will succeed him.

I was watching Devan Nunes last night and thought he would be a great pick. Hard core Trump supporter and he's smart. The media and Rhinos hate him and tried and failed to lawfare him into submission.

Just a thought.

Nice deconstruction........Trump is all about baiting the press.

I think that’s what he’s doing here.

Trump must be planning something for her.....IMHO, Stefanik would make a great Secy of State.

No it does not.

That would have been stupid, since the early Fathers who became presidents were from a few states. No where in the constitution does it say that.

Get educated and read it. It has been precedence, and that is all. At no time has the US Supreme Court ever visited it because no one challenged it.

You read the constitution, and you will not find any constitutional law that forbids it, nor any court ruling from SCOTUS ruling on it. PERIOD.

They cannot vote for two people running for president in the same state,

Remember, the early VPs, were the ones who came in second place.

It was not until the creation of Political parties that a challenger chose a VP to run with them. Until then it was not so.

That is why early Presidents had BVP who did not agree with them, they were challengers.

Remember, there was no such thing as primaries, just the Presidential race.

Thus the statute you refer to is you cannot vote for two presidential nominees from the same state,

yet if you look into Court rulings, even that statute has changed since we went to a party system with nominees picking their own VP

Look at Article Two:

"The Electors shall meet in their respective States, and vote by Ballot for two Persons, of whom one at least shall not be an inhabitant of the same State with themselves..."

The same provision is included in the Twelfth Amendment which modified the procedure for electing the President.

A party could put two persons for the same state on its ticket, but if its electors carried that state, they would be able to vote for only one of the two candidates. If Cheney had not changed his registration, the Texas electors could not have voted for him...so Joe Lieberman would have become Vice President in 2001 (and probably President because the Democrats would then have had an incentive to kill GWB).
