Critical Airspace Warning: Extreme Radiation Hazard at Kwajalein Atoll #image_title A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued for Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands, warning of a severe radiation hazard. The airspace north of the airport’s runway should be avoided at all costs, as it poses significant risks to life. In order to mitigate these dangers, all flights are directed to utilize southern approach and departure routes instead. This information has been provided by the International Civil Aviation Organization.
Yep, you don’t have to be a cryptologist to figure that out.
I guess they inoculate you against politeness when they let you be “in the know”.
My guess is that weather has uncovered some old dumps from the early test days.
But why are they talking about extreme radiation... Whether it’s ionizing or RF?

There is a PDF download button on the upper left.
Well said.
Hiding the details of the launch. Don’t want any questions asked about the launch, so a cover story big enough to cover why air space actually needed to be cleared.
Exactly what I was thinking. Or the dome collapsed…?
This story is a perfect example of the stupidity, childishness, and fake news of the Internet.
Good post. Agreed. I admit I don’t remember exactly where the dome(s) are.

Relatively obscure film about some dangerous radioactive material landing on a small island due to a plane crash.

A lot of the stupid originates right here on FR.

That’s a good question. Microwaves? Gamma rays? Radio waves?
Well this is interesting.... Long ago and far away, like in the ‘70s and ‘80s, we would occasionally go to Kwaj to fly observation for MIRV testing at the missile range there. Was a fun place to visit with a great club, restaurant, and the pool was actual seawater. We looked forward to going there. They never warned us about radiation locally, just told us to stay away from Bikini.
Is the lead lined building still standing ? , last I was in it was back in August of ‘93 . The day that never was .
