Critical Airspace Warning: Extreme Radiation Hazard at Kwajalein Atoll #image_title A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued for Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands, warning of a severe radiation hazard. The airspace north of the airport’s runway should be avoided at all costs, as it poses significant risks to life. In order to mitigate these dangers, all flights are directed to utilize southern approach and departure routes instead. This information has been provided by the International Civil Aviation Organization.
Was there an earthquake there? That stuff doesnt just “work its way through” a concrete cap.
EMCon testing?
I’ve been to Kwaj multiple times...just passing through.
Great club and first rate steak/lobster dinner.
This SOUNDS like a nuke bomber went down with weapons aboard. They occasionally refuel there.
But, who knows...
This story is a perfect example of the stupidity, childishness, and fake news of the Internet.
Due to this story, major papers are publishing stories asking if the radiation dome in the Bikini atoll, 200 miles away from the Kwajalein atoll, is leaking, while posting pictures of that dome as though it were on Kwaj.
No one can read the NOTAM nor understand it. It clearly states that for two days the NOTAM is in effect, not a continuous forever and ever NOTAM.
Then there are the nerds who have to say something like “Castle Bravo” somewhere in their post to act like they are technically savvy and in-the-know. Of course, the Castle Bravo shot was in the Bikini Atoll and not on Kwaj, but these nerds just want the attention.
Then there are the other nerds who do the same thing and claim the USAF Space Fence is the cause, not knowing what the space fence is. These nerds have no connection to aerospace at all, or ever, but want to seem in-the-know too.
Then there is the “I was there” crowd, who obviously had no clue what was going on and were not part of the technical operations on Kwaj, so they, too, make stupid and ignorant statements.
People are simply attention seeking morons and propagate false information all in the name of seeking attention for themselves.
What I was able to find was that it is related to a very high power microwave uplink beam that is associated with a recently completed anti ICBM system. It went live about two weeks ago.
If you were to fly over it, I guess you would be treated like a hot dog in a microwave oven.
Interesting.
But only when it is active. Which is not all the time.
not me!!!
Time to clear my vocal cords, me, me, me. Take no notice. me, me, me.
I watched episode #10 last night. I wonder if they’re going to have more episodes.

I notice that they have a space fence radar there, on google maps. It does not say if it is a transmit or receive station. The old space fence had one primary transmitter and six receive stations. along roughly the 32nd parallel from Georgia to Arizona. I don’t know how the modern version works, but there was talk of siting a station in northwestern Australia. There is also a GBR-P, a huge, powerful, X-Band radar on Kwaj. They have RF radiation monitors to detect any harmful radiation from it. There are four powerful radars on the island of Roi-Namur on the atoll, North of Kwaj.
Might be a directed energy weapons test...
I always knew Keiko was alive down there.
Shaw spoke to her about “our kids”. Bill Randa survived the Titan attack when he threw the tapes in the ocean - if there’s a Season Two I bet he’s down there too.
They’re not telling everything about this situation. By now they would have sent an initial reconnaissance team (IRT) out there in full mop and had some info as to what and why. This will be quieted down.

Seems highly unlikely.
Kwaj was never used for nuclear tests and while they do have a missile defense system setup there, it probably isn’t nuclear based anymore.
Spartan-Sprint system was I think the last nuclear tipped defensive missile.
That’s not even correct as there are no NOTAMAS for KWA airport that go until 3/31/24. The NOTAMS come and go as missions are completed or canceled. This is not unusual activity. It happens all the time, weekly even.
“This SOUNDS like a nuke bomber went down with weapons aboard. They occasionally refuel there.”
No, it does not. It is merely a transmitter used in a mission that is located on Kwaj. They close the airspace all the time for radiation hazards as mission come and go.
OK, OK, OK, we SEE you! Jeez!
“The US Navy has hosted a naval base on Kwajalein Island since World War II. It was the final resting place of the German cruiser Prinz Eugen after it survived the Operation Crossroads nuclear test in 1946. In the late 1950s, the US Army took over the base as part of their Nike Zeus anti-ballistic missile efforts, and since then the atoll has been widely used for missile tests of all sorts. Today it is part of the Ronald Reagan Ballistic Missile Defense Test Site.”

Wouldn’t want an arrow accidentally hitting a bird.
See #59. Most obvious reason... Test launch.
