I see 2 obvious possibilities:

1) The government is still paying for COVID deaths, so that’s what’s being reported. Died from the flu? No money! Died from COVID? HERE’S SOME CASH!

2) Lies and fear mongering.

Typical flu years average 500 to 1000 deaths per week over the whole year (including months that are not flu heavy).

However since the Covid-19 hysteria has been pushed, this is way way down, because the normal flu deaths are being renamed covid-19 deaths.

Basic reality is that the virus behind covid-19 is ubiquitous now just like all the other viruses that give us colds and flu. Its nothing more or less remarkable at this point then the others--apart from our disastrous and very very stupid over reaction to it.
