> Lot of cop haters here.... <
Please consider this. Free Republic is a conservative site (obviously). Except for perhaps a few trolls, we are all law-and-order types. We want to support the police.
Yet many of us here (including me) are skeptical. Something has changed since I was a young man. Police are now ruder, and more willing to escalate. Maybe something is wrong with today’s cops. Or perhaps something is wrong with today’s society that is producing that behavior.
But something is definitely wrong.
Part of it is the large number of woman cops. Woman tend to be pretty hair trigger and the training is enhanced for them because they tend to be smaller than the men and not so strong. women cops in a street role as opposed to office are a bad idea but “equity” requires lots of bad ideas.
“But something is definitely wrong.”
There’s been a slow shift in our culture and it’s everywhere. I commented to an employee as we passed a school bus stop that the parents were waiting for the children even though all the children had to so was walk a hundred yards home. He told me that if the parent wasn’t there then the driver would not let the child get off the bus. He’d take them back to the school and the parent would have to drive to the school and pick them up. That’s a level of authoritarian control that’s borderline insane. Another change is I’ve seen people shoplifting in my local Walmart. I’ve tried to alert and employee and they ignore me. It’s not just the police who have changed. The changes are widespread and across society. We are changing from people who are self-actualizing and responsible to some kind of group identity that isn’t healthy. I, the school, am responsible for the safety of your child, except at school where I will punish him for defending himself from assault. I, the employee, am not responsible for protecting my employer, especially if the thief is someone of color. God, I miss the past.
Roger that. Police from revolver days here.
In general, police have always been willing and eager to enforce unconstitutional laws or orders.
Social media networks has broken the iron grip on narrative control that has been shielding them.
Police deserve no special dispensation until they redeem their profession.
