A Detroit area disc jockey said in the 1990s he used to work earlier in one of the many auto assembly plants nearby. He and his coworkers always had a running gag going that at some point they would sneak an empty bottle or can into the space between the inner door and the outside body so it would go to the customer with a mysterious rattle.

As the auto industry was desperately struggling to stay in business. Smart, real smart, guys.
