Visited at a friend’s invitation a few years back. The feeling of being behind enemy lines was palpable. Hair on the back of my neck standing up kinda thing. Criminals and druggies all over the place, while 20/30/40 something hipsters zoomed around on electric scooters. Surreal.
Downtown Oakland used to be beautiful, with many fine stores, restaurants, and theaters.
Now everywhere you look: boarded-up businesses, graffiti, "vibrant" ethnic artwork, and pot dispensaries.
Painted on one building: "No Justice. No Peace."
How about:
"No law enforcement. No business. No money."
