Congress in its infinite whizdumb has mandated that methane be used in all new refrigerators and air conditioners.
What could possibly go wrong?
Oh, did I mention that for those applications, the gas must be unodorized?
Quite the boon for my old company that makes methane sensors, and potentially quite the boom for those who don't buy them...

30+ years ago I started a small kitchen fire when a cricket behind the stove was driving me crazy. I sprayed a lot of WD-40 back there and then tossed a couple of firecrackers after the WD-40 had no effect.
Yes, alcohol was involved. Glad those days are over and that I survived.

The whole methane scare is rather silly also because it has a relatively short half-life in sunlight.
