The only good part of that stupid movie.
The solution is an over the air software update. It will be done in a few days and cost Tesla almost nothing.
My wife’s Honda is also easy to fool. All that is required is some minimal weight on the steering wheel. For a while, people were selling weights on Amazon, just a few ounces, that you put on the steering wheel. They were marketed to Tesla drivers but I’m sure they would work just as well on other cars with similar driver assist features.
Of course Honda doesn’t advertise the car as “self driving” or auto-pilot like Tesla and GM do. It’s a undocumented feature that combines several “driver safety” features.
I had to make sure this wasn’t a Babylon Bee story.
Have no fear, TeslaHumper or one of the other EV nerds will tell us that in a few years everything will be just perfect with EVs and you’ll be able to sleep the moment you get into the car and you’ll be able to travel, overland and a frozen Bearing Strait, from France to Maine or Key West(your choice) using only 2 AA batteries.

With the proper electronics and software techniques, a determined hacker can intercept or block your key fob signal, infiltrate your car’s software, and even remotely control your vehicle.

“The agency says its investigation found Autopilot’s method of ensuring that drivers are paying attention can be inadequate and can lead to foreseeable misuse of the system.”
i heard that the new update fixes this problem by giving the driver a little electrical shock to get their attention when they’re not paying attention ...
The Tesla screen will require you to pass a Captcha every mile.
Tesla drivers may be safer, but they will definitely not be happier having been snookered into paying extra for a capability that does not operate in the manner that its name implies and will be prevented from taking specific actions to defeat their cars’ safety features.
Boo hoo.
This means someone can send out a software update say to stop all vehicles working on election day or to keep you home because some democrat wishes it.
I would never ever think a car should drive for me. I want to be in control.
