Hamas is backed by rich Islamic oil kingdoms many times richer than Israel. This conflict will not end well for either side.
If the reports are true that Israel is currently flooding the Gaza tunnels, then the war will be over by Christmas and Israel will set up a provisional government in Gaza after the new year. All Hamas command and control, including Sinwar himself, are in those tunnels.

Hamas is backed by Iran. They thought that if they attacked the Jews they could draw Iran into the war when Israel counterattacked.
When the US put two carrier groups in the Med and another is in the area (Persian Gulf or Red Sea, IDK), Iran backed off. Imagine Hamas' surprise when their allies didn't come to their aid, and Israel appears to be serious about annhilating them.
