America’s top universities should abandon their long misadventure into politics, retrain their gaze on their core strengths and rebuild their reputations as centers of research and learning.

Not...gonna...happen
Unless there is a massive purge of “teachers” and administrators. Which ain’t happening.
It’s a lot easier said than done.
These are deep institutions of rotted Leftists. They will never go willingly, but I do think people are catching on that going to college is an utter waste of time and money.
I am coining a new term for leftists, especially those in academia. “Free Market Deniers”.
Looks god on paper, but what are you going to be •teaching” Good bet that a study of the constitution from Hillsdale will not look much like a study of the constitution from Harvard…
That’s like asking a tiger to give up his stripes.
Maybe they need to shut down for a couple of years, clean up and then reopen afresh.
But they are still sold on the false belief that a BA is a magic union card for high paying employment.
Woulda shoulda coulda.
If you’re gonna stop smoking crack, first you have to WANT to stop smoking crack.
Having known a number of what I’ll charitably call “academics*” I think I know why colleges are hotbeds of bizarre politics. The people who inhabit colleges are well paid, upper middle class and socially conscious. They have little if any experience in the real world. And if you don’t have experience in the real world, then a lot of stuff simply doesn’t make sense. You end up thinking “everything would be wonderful if people would just (fill in blank.)” So, they set about creating a world where everyone will see the world through their colored lens and lack of experience.
* Academics may be the world-renowned expert in, say, bronze age poetry. They think that expertise extends to absolutely everything. (The Dunning Kruger idiot effect.) People like these can’t see that anything is wrong with them or their institutions.
Primary and secondary schools as well.
would trust Zakaria about as far as I could throw him
damage control from the elites
retreat, regroup, lay low for a bit... then get right back at it
It pretty much began with Charlottesville. The students along with faculty went nuts, banning conservatives from speaking enragements was hip, demanding “safe rooms”, blacks only facilities. Then came BLM and ANTIFA. They should have been stopped in their tracks.
Another way to stop smoking crack is to cease to exist. That would be another acceptable outcome for our universities.
I like it a lot. the “free market deniers” in academia will eventually find out that without free markets their sources of income will no longer be available.
F’ off Fareed.
You are one of them, ya lying piece of shyte.

Not possible. There are only so many NGOs and Non-Profits to go around. There are only so many positions in Marketing, Advertising, Social Work, Teaching and Sales to go around.
Markets can only handle so many lawyers as is evident by the increasing number of ambulance chasers and many advertising quick divorces for a flat fee. There just isn’t that much work for them.
And I’m not really sure where degrees in disciplines like Women’s Studies, African American Poetry would fit in in todays demanding private sector.
So, the only places these morons can find a home is on a college campus. Where they make very good money, get some great benefits, if tenured get TAs and grad assistants to do most of the work and have a lot of time off. And if someone needs to be taken care of, they just create a position and raise tuition to cover the costs.
I just saw today, on Twitter, a school that is starting a program specifically for DEI. The salaries were insane and parents and loans are going to pay for all of that.
So, outside of all of that, the very large majority of the people in those college/universities wouldn’t be able to find work anywhere.
Don’t forget diversity departments. Those need to go first.
