It sure sounded like you were bashing Baby Boomer “housewives”, including your own mother. Your brush is way TOO broad. An apology to at least your own mother might go somewhere. Please let her know how much you love her, and everything she’s done for you, and given up for you. Don’t wait.

And most of the things they get blamed for are things that were done by the two generations before them.
What really annoys me is the crap they get over SS. They were the only generation to pay into it at the full 12.6% rate. Prior the rate was 6%. They were not the ones that organized the "Gray Panthers" to expand benefits. They did not take the social security funds and mix it in the general fund. But once they reached retirement age the cry of "Those greedy BOOMERS" was heard across the land. I don't think a generation has ever been blamed for so much while actually being so blameless.
Unfortunately, my mother died at the beginning of July.
SHe died quickly, so that’s a plus. No suffering.
She was ok at 6am, when I saw her. She asked me to call her an ambulance at noon. By 4pm, she was intubated. By 0730pm, she passed away.
I’m sorry for your loss. I hope you had a chance to tell her how much you loved her and how much her sacrifices meant to you. And even if you didn’t tell her, I know that she loved you despite your poor thinking about Baby Boomer mothers in particular, and every mother in general.
“””” I just said that daycare was popularized by the babyboomers.”””””
Weasel language, popularized by?
by those born in the 1950’s, because the 1970’s was when daycare boomed.
generations bkmk
Boomed? Popularized by? Your bitterness and lack of history have led you to not attacking childcare itself but something that hurt you in your own life, that fixated you on a generation named boomers.
“The federal government entered the child care business during the 1930s when federally-funded nursery schools were established for poor children.”
“Federal funding for child care and other community facilities was available during the war years under the Lanham Act, which financed child care for an estimated 550,000-600,000 children before it was terminated in 1946.”
“In 1954, Congress enacted a comprehensive revision of the Internal Revenue Code, establishing a statutory tax deduction for child and dependent care expenses.”
“In 1976, the deduction was replaced with a tax credit known as the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit.”
“As though everybody born in a particular time frame thinks and acts the same ... It’s absurd.”
In some ways that’s true. But it definitely was the Boomer generation when mothers chose to go to work instead of parenting their kids. The feminist movement ruined the family unit.
The boomers didn’t want to take care of their own kids. Why would THEIR kids assume Mom and Dad would want to parent their grandchildren?
Baby boomers began the home-schooling craze, which is growing exponentially. https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/interactive/2023/homeschooling-growth-data-by-district/

Nancy Hanks did a pretty good job back in the 1700s and 1800s, even though she wasn’t educated herself. Glad the home schooling system is being resurrected again in earnest. One positive outcome of WuFlu.
As a teen, I’d ride the Nancy Hanks train from Atlanta to visit my cousins in Macon - glad to know the history. TY
